loads and loads of wd40, not grease, no, no, no. a old spoke or a thin screwdriver if they get stuck halfways on, then squirt wd40 in again twist.

-

hehe, sowwy buddy, we got there quite late, and i kinda forgot,

NOT grease! Beware, the solvent in WD40, ie. WD40 itself can fuck with the rubber and those grips are really thin. Borrow your girlfriend's hairspray.
-
• #9
can it really mess with the rubber?
i had no idea.
-
• #10
i agree with Superprecise hair spray all the way, that's what i've always used.

Only if you use "loads and loads" as prescribed above. it does chemical alter the compound i'm told. I wouldn't use WD40 on my hair.

dip it into hot water

I used a combination of hairspray and hot water - worked a treat.
Getting them off was a motherfucker, though
-
• #15
Yep, stick the grips in some boiling water which should make them expand a little and help them slide on. You can also pit a bit of paint thinner on the bars.
-

Not tried long grips like that but normally I'm a fan of hot hot water. Put the grips in hot hot water for at least 5 minutes, then slide them on, maybe with someone adding extra water.

Not the best idea if the bars are CrMo.
They'll rust.
-
• #18
Hairspray, if you want to get them off push a screwdriver carefully between the grip and the bar, spray and twist it off.
-
• #19
I used hairspray on mine and it worked perfectly - the grips slid on easier than Ashley Cole's pants slip off.

thanks for the visual turpe

S'alright - a (mental) picture speaks a thousand words.
-
• #22
lol.
I sat my Dimension long-grips on a radiator for 5 mins, then had to use Spraymount to stop them wiggling off!
Cut them like you would a BMX grip when their time has come.

The correct method ;]
Take them back of the 2 inches of handle bar they currently occupy. Clean them until all of the grease is gone.
Take three zipties and poke them into a grip, push the grip back onto the bar.
Using a twisting method slide the grip up the bar.
Pull the zipties out when you're done. The plastic keeps the rubber away from the bar so they slide relatively easily.
Did mine this way whilst drunk last Thursday. -

i just use heaps and heaps of wd40 and more wd40; then slam them on as quick as possible. crap about it corruding rubber!!
-
• #25
use wd40 and turn them inside out, leaving a bit of the end (about 1 cm) still regular, then spray the bars and the inside (inverted outside) with wd40 and roll them on the bar while simultaneously turning them right side out again. least strenuous way by far. here's some pics (so easy, i took my grips off and on just to take the pics)
also i used lighter fluid instead of wd40, less detrimental to the rubber.
any one have a good way of getting kerin grips on dorp bars? i've used a lot of grease, and im about two inches on and then it bunches up and now im stuck half on half off.
