Well, the Wings didnt suck in the late 90s, and if anyone can help us out with finding a nice area to live (our budget is 800 quid for a studio flat), that isnt in a shit area, then that would be helpful. I know hackney is the worst place to live, and also held one of the worst festivals (1-2-3-4 "whatever" that thing was) last summer. and since Im moving from one shit hole, Id not like to live in another one!

RPM but why, when he can move to Wandsworth and wallow in the lowest council tax bracket in the whole of London?
Cos he rides a bike not a horse nor a BMW 4x4

yes of course, it makes sense to pay inflated CT bills just because you ride a bike.
I hate the way my bike gets confiscated when I cross the border, and have to continue my journey home in a Porsche Cayenne

hey clicks,
I'm from Madison, your neck of the woods. I've lived here for 6 years. I wouldn't live anywhere in London than east, but to settle the argument a little bit, perhaps we should know what you're looking for in a home.
Nightlife or just a local pub? Going out or staying in? Easy access or a nice commute? Parties or Dinner? Movies or Mayhem? That sort of thing...London has a much lower quality of life as far as space and living accommodations is concerned compared to the midwest- detroit included. When looking at a flat make sure to ask about Council Tax.
Have you or your partner lived in England before? Why are you moving here?
etc.....

oh and Hackney is not the worst you can get.

My fiance has always lived in London, so she knows the area well. We are not into clubs (unless its swing dancing), we love films, and quiet pubs, reading and doing art, etc. She makes clothing, I ride bikes. She will be alone for the most part in finding us a flat and moving us in (obviously her family will help), because Im finishing school here, but we don't want to share a flat with any others if possible, because we will be just married and want to live alone. Any honest help in finding a nice place to live within zone 2 for no more than 800 quid a month would be really appreciated. I have been to london numerous times and lived there for months on end so I know the lifestyle, how to get around, etc. It wont be a culture shock to me at all.
Thanks everyone.

chris crash all hockey aside, we are basically going through the same hassle with getting visas sorted out. me and my fiance are doing it all ourselves, i dont know how your doing it, but if you want to chat with some one working on the same problems let me know. i also know 3 other people who have gone down this route and now live in the uk and can pass along advice.
and i do mess with every one, don't mean anything by it... though i am an aves fan.
Yeah I would greatly appreciate it. We have got all the Visa stuff sorted, all the moving arrangements are set, getting my stuff over there, etc. She is coming here with her family for the wedding, and then the day after Im mailing all my crap to the Chicago Consulate to get it sorted. I know it takes 5 days on average, but we are going to NYC for our honeymoon for a week. She is flying back to London, and I will stay in NYC for an extra week as my sister lives in Brooklyn. Our flat will already be set up by mid - July. We just need help in finding a good priced, safe area to live.
What a ruckus caused back in the day by your team, especially with the Chris Draper incident!
Also, no offence taken. Ill be glad to have some friends to ride with when I move!

yeah i had all the stuff sorted, then lost my passport at a truck stop between kanass city and denver... so that was a delay. i'm creeped out about going to give dna samples and all that, but that might just be my overactive sense of paranoia, and distrust for my fellow humans.
the aves are still basically a good team, they really need a goalie, and another heavy hitter so lapi doesn't have to do it all.
come down to polo when you get back, every one is really nice, or go to the john snow on a Friday and meet some couriers (oft confused with curryers who are miserable bastards, or so i hear)
things to remember about london:
Smeear makes hats, Scott makes bags don't get confused or you will end up with a really big hat or really small bag.
Dale is the one in the mankini, and Emilie is the one in the knickers again disastrous results if you confuse them.
keep your fingers away from Hippy's mouth
there is a number of pints where Pikey Wane changes form a hilarious drunk messenger to one of the most powerful destructive forces known to man, the number changes, but keep track of it (was anyone else at bloody mary's birthday party).
Jos and Roberto have lots of shiny bike things for sale
you will need to dedicate at least 3 days a week to bike events, these are thursday westend beers, friday drinks at the snow, and sunday polo, this is your minimum commitment.
and ride on the left. -

me Living south of the river is a good plan, moving in August is also a good plan.
welcome when the time comes
I will say what I always say when anything about housing comes up, come south to round Lewisham / Catford area it is cheap and easy to access. Find somewhere using the website http://www.londonprofiler.org (add the index of multiple deprevation layer and use Nestoria property search tab). Welcome to London too, it is amazing! -

Viva Cake is the club for you. Google it.
For films, join the British Film Institute (BFI) and see films down on the South Bank at the National Film Theatre (NFT). It's cheaper than big cinemas, a wonderful selection of great films that change constantly, and there are no adverts or distractions (except the occasional director doing interviews post-film). For the more block-buster films, the Prince Charles is your friend, or the Curzons.

or just go to the local Odeon like everyone else.

gucci Not when the local Odeon charges you nearly a tenner to see a film.

£15/mth gets you unlimited films in any cineworld cinema...if you average over 3 flicks a month, thats a pretty good deal

local odeon + orange wednesdays + student id = less than £3.50 for a new film
