And, one reason not to run 48x16 is that 16*3 = 48, so if you start playing with skidstops you'll eat the same part(s) of the tire every time you skid.
To train your fixie-technique i'd recommend 48*19 for regular street use.
+1 to this - you guys running 48x16, if you start skidding at all then change your ratio. You will eat through a tyre in literally days with that ratio. One skid spot, two if you are a two footed kidder.
