Is your frame a Bob Jackson?
-
• #4
VB, is that irony?
:)
Yes, silver with red old helevetica style lettering. -
• #5
hhhmm...i sense a bargain. what size is your frame?
-
• #6
If you were paying them for a respray do you reckon they could magically find / make some of said classic decals?
That would be bad. -
• #7
bigben VB, is that irony?
Not at all.
I would totally understand why Bob Jackson would threaten to use copyright to prevent the use of their decals on non-BJ frames. It could tarnish their name and reputation if you stuck them on some old road conversion.
Did BJ understand that you have a BJ already and are going through the process of restoring it to former glory? If they understood that and still threatened copyright stuff over the use of a head badge and fake decals, then they're being prats. If they have a problem with that they can either make them themselves or go after the person infringing their copyright, the decal maker.

I thought his was going to be about frames snapping or something and that had me worried as I was thinking about buying one this summer. But it's only about stickers. Oh well. Deal with it and go ride a bike.
-

Yes, I made it super clear it was a BJ, so in other words their position is that of greedy cnuts, you can only have it badged if they do it. Trouble is they only use the new logos and I like the way the old frame looks.
No bargain to be had though, I'll be doing it anyway, they want to sue my ass, bring it on. Wankers.

Paint it red with a white swirl and print Coca-Cola down the side..

Hate them and yet still want to advertise their bikes?? Wha?
-
• #12
Love the bike, think the shop's owners are the wankers. It's not the bike's fault.
-
• #13
Why have any stickers on it at all then?
-
• #14
hippy knows where to get the right stickers ;)
-
• #15
PS: I'll calm down soon, first time I've got properly angry since the crash, think that its more than possible BJ are getting tainted with eau de crap driven land rover...
-
• #16
It pisses me off that they dont use or at least provide the old style lettering also. Its much nicer than the current one which i feel does not compliment the frame whatsoever i opted out of having the decals in the hope that i might get the old ones somewhere else.
Does anyone know where you can get em?
-
• #17
Yeah, get your BJ stickers done and then cover the rest of the bike like..
-
• #18
I'll see how I feel once I mull it over, but if I do bother to work out what the actual font specs are I'll let the forum know.
-
• #19
got a pic of the old decals?
-
• #20
Are you sure you they said you couldn't get the old style? I was at the shop 2 weeks ago ordering my frame and they let me choose my decals from a bunch of different styles they had displayed on an enameled metal sheet, could have sworn I saw the old stylee ones on there too (though I guess they could be just for display only, though that would be odd).

Not here, its in the studio so I'll post one later.

I'll throw in Gil M's name again. Does repro and new design decals for loads of people in the bike world - very helpful and can replicate most stuff - topic on it last night.
-
• #23
fair enough to them i suppose, you are ripping off the design. plus you're doing the cheapo way of getting powdercoated and vinyl stickers on top. which imho is crap. i say do it properly and get it clear coated over repro decals by lloyds.

i like hippy's idea of just not bothering with the decals. put your own mark on it. you like your Bob Jackson for the quality of the ride/build.
anyway, BJs are getting rather common ;)

exactly. even i've got one.
I've just come off the phone from Bob Jackson.
I can truly honestly say that they suck, big time! Conversation was about frame decals. I know they no longer have the old style down tube logos, but that they do have the head tube badges. I mentioned that I was going to get the frame powder coated (cue attitude) and that I was going to get the down tube logo replicated through vinyl lettering and bingo, next thing I'm getting a lecture on copyright and that they can and have taken people to court for doing that. I'm like, "wait a minute, you don't stock these, I'm trying to replicate it and you are going to take me to court?", "Yes" he says, "its copyright, and what about when there are no more Bob Jacksons?"
I then informed him what I thought of the customer service and attitude and that I had considered that my next frame would be another BJ, fat chance of that, one less BJ in the world, I'll look elsewhere. He didn't give a shit!
I'm fuming, they can suck my $%^&.
