Google fixed gear / fixed wheel Audax. Plenty of poeple do reeeeeally long ride on fixed (not track geometry though as Mr Smith states above) Paris Breast Paris is 1200km and done with a time limit of 90 hrs, so not much time for snoozing! YOu will be fine on 40 miles. Just take a tube and pump and a multi tool just incase. Enjoy.
