Blue locktight too much

  • i'm building a radial wheel, and the best wheel builder i know says purple locktight to hold the nipples but i cant find it any where, got some blue laying about... thoughts?

  • 3 cross

  • buy me new spokes. 3 cross rear.

  • use the blue then, or borrow some from the wheelman

  • wheel man is far away.

  • loctite on spokes? but why? thats not what Sheldon says! DO WHAT SHELDON SAYS!

(loctite is for important stuff, like cogs and lockrings)

    :)

  • what is loctite?

  • as far as i'm aware, loctite is a brand of superglue. i think they might be talking about something else though.

  • flickwg what is loctite?

basically glue for bolts, nuts etc....

  • haj loctite on spokes? but why?

    so they dont come unscrewed...

    flickwg what is loctite?

more expensive thread lock where strength is shown by colour, red is supper tuff, blue is less and purple is less.

radial lacing loosens easily, so some builders threadlock the nipples (how this helps with retruing later on, if needed, I don't know)

most of us use grease on cogs and lockrings, done up fucking tight. not loctite.

DT Swiss sell nipples pre-treated with threadlock which I used for my wheels. You have an hour or two to adjust tension and then your wheel 'should' stay truer for longer.

Didn't know about radial lacing loosens easily (i think it looks ugly anyways:)

About loctite on cogs and lockring, i did try the grease and fucking tight, but my (crap) on-one hub with crap cog and crap lockring still didn't hold op.. with red loctite it does, and i bet i'll still be able to get it off when i want to.
I'd rather be safe than sorry, so i think i'll use loctite for cogs and lockrings in the future too. i really don't want it to slip.
