i've used a block of wood and a hammer before. a little more trick than a screwdriver, but it'll stop it from getting bent out of shape or chipped.
depends how long it's been on there though.
i think there might be a clever method on sheldon brown's (RIP) site. or i might be thinking of a clever method for headset cups. worth a check anyway.
