NTL, with Belkin wireless on Mac

Posted on
  • as above, recently moved and got re-connected, can't plug another mac into the ntl box, so got a wireless belkin, running a cable to the belkin, and only can use one mac,(plugged in) want to run both wireless????
any of you techeads, able to help??
won't be back until about nine, so will answer any useful comments then :)
    thanks in advance.

  • You need a router, not a hub or a switch.

So your wireless belkin thing needs to have a WAN port which you connect to the NTL box, not just a few LAN ports.

  • Surely once you've set-up the router, the two macs only need the password to log in?

  • If what you have is a switch or hub rather than a router, you'll never be able to get them both working.

I had the same problem, trying to use a simple wireless access point with a cable modem. Didnt work, needed a wireless router. It was then that I understood the difference between OSI layers 2 and 3.

  • I think you should go wash your knob.

  • @fc9k, it is a belkin router, i have done a bit of homework and the one i have is* supposed *to work in this situation.

  • Sam I think you should go wash your knob.

    is that after or before???

  • Both.

  • ok, right knob is now washed, what do i do now?

  • Hit it with a hammer.

  • that was the first thing i fncking done....,.

  • Turn off your firewall. Run worm.exe. Sorted.

  • worms can't run - they've not got legs.

have you not been listening to david attenborough

  • Nope.

  • can't you log into the router with one mac (192.168.0.1) then set up the wireless from there? then put the wep key in when it asks for it on the other mac?

or are you trying to use a cable bt line router on cable internet?
