remove it with a screwdriver and hammer, tap evenly around it best you can
-

option A: hammer screwdriver if you wanna risk damaging the race
option B: Go to a shop and have it pulled off properly and safely with a puller ....or borrow their cyklus race remover -

yes, don't hit it too hard.
if it absolutely won't budge, go to bike shop.
I've never had to do that yet though, and haven't damaged a race either.

Whats the largest spanner you own ?
It will work with a 30mm or 32mm headset spanner with a bit of cloth wrapped over the end and tapped round with a hammer. Make sure the two ends of the spanner both touch the cup. About 3 sharp taps should do itGood bit of advice ............... subscribe to Lidl and scan their newsletters every week ............. wait until they have "cycle tool kits" on offer at sub £20 and buy at least two. With one of these in your possession there will be very few occassions when you will not have a tool for most bike jobs that you are going to come across

yes...lidl rules.

you could clamp the crown race in a vice with the fork blades pointing towards the ground, then put a wood block on top of the steerer tube and give it a wack.
p.s. most of the lidl tools are shit (who would have guessed) you will end up buying the park ones to replace all the ones that break when being used normaly.

AH HAAAAA
True
I do trash about 50% of them .....lol one use only, come to think of it ....but good to have in a carry case and in one place the whole set costs less than a couple of park pedal spanners -

Cheers guys. I don't have any of the required tools (clamp, headsest spanners). Just a screwdriver and hammer :)
I'll try and find a bike shop that can pull it off for me... Rekon BLB will have one?

i've used a block of wood and a hammer before. a little more trick than a screwdriver, but it'll stop it from getting bent out of shape or chipped.
depends how long it's been on there though.
i think there might be a clever method on sheldon brown's (RIP) site. or i might be thinking of a clever method for headset cups. worth a check anyway.

Hi Guys (and gals),
I'm currently stripping my bike for spray, and just remembered about the ring on the fork (is this called the crown race? I have this in my head, but dunno..)
How the fk do I get it off? Its well lodged on for sure. I want to keep it as its a Campag headset and I've got the rest off pretty smoothly.
Its pretty late and I live in a flat, so have gently (with a hammer) tried getting a knife blade in between the ring and the fork, but its too tight it seems (chunky knife maybe...)
I'll give it some more juice in the morning, with a thinner knife. Try get it off in little bits. Anyway, anyone know of a better way, that is less likely to leave it all scratched up?
Hmmm...
