I'm in the same boat as fc9k.
I find the trouserguard quite useful (key reason for buying it!). They are quite heavy, but look pretty strong and come with 42T chainring. My chainset/hub combo is:
DOTEK crank + BBUN26x113 + on-one small flange double fixed hub + Miche15T = xroads
