As I thought a linux distro with a nice user interface and I imagine easy setup. Others are avalible but of course do not have the same brand behind them. A good way though to introduce people to linux and a non ms system without having to buy a mac.

"gOS is a Linux distribution created by 'Good OS LLC', a Los Angeles-based corporation. The company advertises it as "An alternative OS with Google Apps and other Web 2.0 apps for the modern user."

There are rumours that Google is building an OS of it's own. an Ubuntu variant - as that is what they use in the office and to power servers etc.

Google has always been a big linux user. When they first started they had a load of old desktops cobbled together to build the server(s) and I think they ran on that model for a long time. Using cheap commodity part which they can just add in extra nodes when needed, keeps the system flexible. What they do now I don't know. It would be nice to think they still have the original servers running away somewhere still doing there bit occasionally. I expect they have died.
