Up for sale is a new candidate for Velveteen Rabbit status, that is to say, shabby but REAL, a straight older scratched-up Holdsworth Special from 1971. The owner of this bike should have been reported to the SPCB, the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Bikes, but somehow he got off scot free and is probably scratching up his new carbon mount. Good Riddance!
It might be that he once lived in an Ashram in central Oregon, lived on raw vegetables juices only and meditated for hours until reaching that state of consciousness where he finally said "enough is enough" and went to work at McDonald's. He must have taken his bed of nails with him when he left the ashram, and had it propped on it's side in the garage and figured if it was good enough for his backside it was good enough for his bike. Maybe he was punishing his bike for carrying him so slowly. Hard to say...
I have a Holdsworth frame from the early 1960's that a great touring bike, and its hard to not sent this bike off to the painters, but there's something intrinsic that shines through the abuse: quality.. Holdsworth has quietly built competent, quality and modestly priced frames for many years.
