don't some forks take a slightly different crown race size?
I thought I saw something about this oddity somewhere..
as for getting the bugger off..
if you cant get a screwdriver underneath it, maybe you can fashion a kind of slide hammer by getting something hook shaped under it and hitting the other end of the hook shaped thing in an upwards manner.
