He was a hell of a man. Truly one of the most important people in cycling in this internet age. I'm really bummed now..

Obviously, I like everyone have spent many late nights engrossed in Sheldon's site and yet for some reason was totally unaware of his suffering.
Hael, thanks for posting his quote, truly touching.
A most inspiring human being, heartfelt condolences to his family.
RIP Sheldon

SB's site was the mark of a genius - his desire, skill and enthusiasm for sharing his knowledge with the rest of us is a gift for anyone who wants to know anything about bikes. i know he was not into charity rides and i'm guessing he'd not think much of a statue or similar but for his online gain ratios calculator alone he deserves a tribute somewhere, somehow. a guardian of the zeitgeist, a genuine loss to the modern cycling era.

I just started riding my first fixie on Saturday, a converted Raleigh. A friend of mine went to Harris Cyclery in December and picked up a few parts, including a set of Harris-branded Dimension hubs. Every time I look down and see them gleaming up at me they make me smile and think of that picture of Sheldon with his eagle helmet.
Definitely inspired by him, it was reading Retro Raleighs that got me into the idea of getting a Raleigh (I'm from Nottingham as well). For months, this picture of a 1976 Raleigh Professional Track bike hosted by him was my dream.
RIP Sheldon Brown.

that's terrible news. he'll be missed.
I bought my first track hub off him almost 10 years ago.
He's clearly had a huge impact on a lot of us and (I would imagine)
thousands of cyclists the world over, so that's quite a legacy.SB, if you're reading this from your great celestial internet cafe,
I salute you sir! -

I noticed on sheldonbrown.blogspot.com that there is a mentioning of memorial rides. Perhaps one here in London is in order?

Critical mass could be dedicated to his memory, perhaps Sheldon spoke cards could be handed out ?

sheldon spoke cards is an excellent idea
-

No way. That makes me really sad. He'll be sorely missed.

Thank you Sheldon!
He taught me all about fixed, gear inches/gain ratio/meters development, thread pitch, chain pitch, bottom bracket tapers, wheel building, wheel sizes, etc. etc. etc.
His articles and glossary are both indespensible knowledge. -

Sheldon was a worthy celebrity. One of those guys who's autograph I'd want and who, other than thank you, I wouldn't know what to say to if I met him.
Thank you for explaining gear inches to me. I have an easier ride every day because of you.
I think Spoke Cards at a memorial ride are in order.
I think LFGSS should send a plant to the funeral on behalf of all of us and perhaps a letter?
