i was going to start a thread about helmets but i might as well just ask in here, i'm going to get a giro atmos tomorrow. does anyone here use one or had any experience with them? i've heard nothing but good about them but wondered if you'd heard anything about them?

try helmets on, you may find one brand fits better than the other, i use bell for the road and giri zen for mtb, but i find met helmets too wide for me.

for 100 quid i'd want to be able to charge headlong at walls like the juggernaut out of xmen. (without sustaining injuries). And also possibly be able to break clean through them too.

in what fantasy world would you get THAT for 100 quid?!

Got an Atmos in Aus for cheap.
Really nice and actually almost too vented for winter so I wear a hat underneath.I have a Specialized Decibel is anyone wants it.

I've got one of those depressing £20 specialized helmets that most people buy from Evans cos it's the cheapest. I never wear it though. I'm getting on for 30, but I think it's still that little streak of 'i am indestructible' that will probably fade away within a couple more years. Or if I get my fiancee up the duff or something. Mostly i think i'm just obsessed with my appearance.
On the subject of safety gear though, i did find some 80's chequered BMX elbow and knee pads when i was back visiting my parents, and come to think of all the spills i've had it's only knees and elbows that seem to get bloodied - you don't often see them being worn around London...

I was planning to post a "witty" picture of a WW1 German soldier's helmet into this thread.
Then I found myself typing "German helmet" into Google images. At work.

Strewth! (always wanted to say that!) that Casco helmet has a hand sawn (sewn?) real leather interior and aluminium shell
Usually due to the number of vents and lightness of it really. The most I pay for a lid is around 60 quid.
I almost always ride with a Giro Xen on - mtbing one but better than nothing. Most people don't seem to wear them on fixed bikes.
I've split a fair few of them now off road and would not want to try it on road.[/quote]
Due to a shop buggering up an order for a Specialized Decibel in their sale for £50 they offered me a 2D for £65 (RRP £110) which must be cost price. It is ridiculously light with loads of vents as stated.
