• tynan
roxy I say put a bunch of stories like this together. Provide the police report numbers and send it to Livingstone, Galloway, Boris, and the like.

Good idea.

Do it, instead of yapping on about it.

:P
ooooh, is that a challenge?!!? ok Mr. Funny Bunny. I will. So far I have one story. Um, no, I can add my bike getting stolen out of my own living room while I was sleeping upstairs. Ok that's 2.

Who else has a police report number and a short sad story?

Tynan? want to add your story?

In the mean time why don't you guys stop yapping about doin stuff and go out and do it? Thursday night? I like the super glue idea. I like the sticker idea. I like the make a big ridiculous scene idea.

• hmmm... the famous 'west end beers' could be relocated to your neck of the woods In a show of cross-london bicycling splidarity..? I'm sure people were more up for a bit of a ride this week anyway... if it's not raining of course ;-)
Yayy - Go team!

• Yipee I can't wait to be there. Is it really happening on thursday.?? ''Skaters' right to a decent southbank facilty'' film at Prince Charles that night, you are all invited pick up a ticket at Slam City Skates. Then Brick lane after. Roxy is flippin right we need to make a scene, not sink to this dickhead's level of vandalising things. We can safely assume it was him, its a fair assumption given flip's account. And even if it wasn't why was the fucker gloating out of his window about it??? I agree we all bring a shitty old lock we don't care about and something, anything, to attatch to it, and turn that house into a fuckin eyesore. i would like to chain a concrete mixer to it or perhaps chain someone's car to it!? that'd be wicked.

I'll be there at 8.30 I think

• guys please be careful, my best friend Maria lives at 8 woodseer st., on the ground floor! Don't go breaking the wrong windows.

• ummm we're going to lock lots of things to a railing aren't we?

• can we be called 'The go team?

• only if you go, otherwise you can call yourself the home team.

• hello all,

first, i'd like to say i'm completely overwhelmed at the amount of support i have received in the past 48hrs. the number of people who offered their time and/or parts was incredible and already yesterday i was able to cobble together a new ride to get around for the next week or two and by the end of this week i should have a setup that i can use for a few months until i get the money for wheels together. even my friend from back home who built my bicycle up for me is rallying people to the cause, which is totally unexpected and way beyond the call of duty.
to all of you who've helped or offered support or just read this in solidarity, thank you. your support has gotten me through an unbelievably shitty weekend and today i feel as though i can just move on.

which brings me to point 2:
as difficult as it is for some to hear, i do not believe in an eye for an eye. even were i sure that the man in the window was responsible for the damage - and i am by no means sure it was he [when i got a new chain fitted at BLB yesterday, the guy who did it, Adam, told me that the damage to the frame and rear rim is consistent with someone having tried to force the locks off by using the frame itself as a lever against them; the locks themselves were also attacked, but thankfully held up against the onslaught] though i am sure that he is an absolute wanker - i would not pursue violent or direct revenge. however infinitesimal the chances, it is possible that he did frighten away the thieves ...
i could keep guessing all day. the point is, i believe in the rule of law. there are always going to be exceptions in society: those people who think they have more to gain by fucking everyone else over rather than working together with everyone. carrying my broken bicycle over my shoulder through hackney like a wounded friend, i of course doubted whether the moral high ground was the right course. but at the risk of repeating this too many times, everyone's support on here convinced me that it was. by grouping together to help each other when in need we achieve far more than we could if we were constantly at each other's throats trying to gain the upper hand. these ass/arseholes are the exception to the rule, even though they have made their presence felt to too many of us on the forum and outside.
i think roxy's point extremely valid. if we can somehow bring it to the attention of people who can actually make a difference, then we will have done something useful and enacted positive change. and i don't mean my isolated incident: anyone who has had a bicycle stolen or vandalised, anyone who feels threatened leaving a locked bicycle on the streets for any amount of time or riding in traffic amidst cabs and angry drivers.
if we could get the police to actually step up their efforts to take bike theft seriously, maybe to crack down on those who are selling stolen goods (at brick lane and wherever else they/we might know of), but also to make people more aware of the problem of bike theft and to encourage them not to support the thieves, more rights for cyclists, etc...
we need to think exactly how to word it, how to propose a campaign, but i would much rather see more police on brick lane (for example) and fewer bike thefts (or fences for the thieves to sell through) than a rock through this idiot's window.
all this said, i am not around on thursday, i'm going up to the midlands with my girlfriend for a family thing, will be back on monday. so i'm around tonight or tomorrow, or anytime next week. if people are still going to go out this thursday, believe me i am there in spirit.

• Sorry to here about this situation flip. I can't offer any parts but I can offer mechanical help including any wheel building you want done but it sounds like you are sorted.

I am with Roxy, a scene is what is needed. This will raise profile of the problems and any will also result in disruption to the business of man in question.

• Also as a side point a unregistered payas you go sim card can cause more problems for the restaurant than a few bricks through windows.

They can tell what handset a sim was used in, and if thats linked to you in any way...I have loads of spare handsets that are unregistered if you need tho ;)

• Surely if we all get food poisoning from that place we could report it and cause them no end of hassle?

• Skullhead Surely if we all get food poisoning from that place we could report it and cause them no end of hassle?
lol i like your style!

• Damn Flip, just read through all this and am really sorry about what happened.
I live round there and, although the stolen bikes are SOLD there, didn't think it was worse an area than anywhere else in London for theft/damage.
I agree with the whole awareness campaign thing. Could at least change some opinions.

And, sorry again that this was your semi-welcome-to-London.

• flip - respect for the attitude. Make the world a better place bit by bit.

(and nice slipping in of the alibi: 'i'm going up to the midlands with my girlfriend for a family thing' - sure!)

• @hael
it was hippy's idea
I guess it might look wierd if LOADS of people emailed them with fake illness reports.
I think the chaining anything and everything to the railings is the best plan.

• i like the chaining random objects idea! could make a funny blog about that!

If you really want to be vicious, just write 'pedo' in red letters on his front door. He wont last too long after that tbh.

though best off not causing any proper damage cops would take seriously.

• flip - you speak wisdom and are a true gentleman.. Hurrah! Lets just have a good awareness-raising knees-up. (If we happen to see thugs carrying bolt-croppers then Marquis of Queensbury rules chaps! what what?)

• Get a can of paint and spray a huge swastika on the wall and then see which one that guy would rather have to look at.

• CHUG_IT Get a can of paint and spray a huge swastika on the wall and then see which one that guy would rather have to look at.

Like your style. Aswell as the word 'NONCE' in big neon pink paint!

• So let's get a bunch of stupid signs, old bike frames, furniture, and the like and lock it out in front? I do believe there is a designer or two on this forum who could help us make some flyers.

I think the points should be:

1. London doesn't care about bikes
2. Police don't take bike theft seriously
3. Bicycles are some people's only affordable way to travel around this city
4. Bicyclists deserve support
5. Criminal damage of personal property will not be tolerated
6. Businesses who don't support bicycling shouldn't be given custom
7. Mean people suck.
8. (may I throw in) Brick Lane should only be for cycling and pedestrians
9. The cops know that bike theft and stolen bike sales are in the open on Brick Lane and do nothing.
10. Everyone loves a bit of arrospok

Come on now you creative people, draw dammit draw!
