  • That's not a series of locks,

    Now that's a series of locks!
    Kennet and Avon canal in Wiltshire. 29 locks!

  • Wow! boating uphill. I am trumped.. but could you ride there tonight DDM? Tommy?! hmm? :-P

  • new lock arrived yesterday, wow what a difference, i used to think my old chain was quite thick

  • TheBrick(Tommy) "Panama Canal Locks

    The Panama Canal Locks, which lift ships up 25.9 m (85 ft) to the main elevation of the Panama Canal, were one of the greatest engineering works ever to be undertaken at the time, eclipsed only by other parts of the canal project. No other concrete construction of comparable size was undertaken until the Hoover Dam in the 1930s. The total length of the lock structures, including the approach walls, is over 3 kilometres (nearly two miles).

    The locks, which have a total of six steps, limit the maximum size of ships which can transit the canal, known as Panamax. Each of these steps has two lock chambers, doubling the amount of traffic that can be handled; together they raise ships from sea level to a height of 25.9 m (85 ft)."

    Yeah baby now that what I call a lock!

    beacuse america is awsome.

  • You want a good lock. This is the best lock. It's not even a lock. It's better than a lock. It's the Falkirk Wheel. It raises the boats 24 meters over... wait for it... 0 meteres.

  • Kick ass!

  • ^Too nice^

    People would steel them.

  • what lock is that

  • egidio what lock is that

    japanese

  • there's a bit in the observer about locks. They timed a locksmith how long it would be to break them.

    Kryptonite New York d-lock came out top (lasted 2mins 33secs against an angle grinder)
    Worst was Abus CombiFlex that lasted all of 1 second against a pair of pliers!

  • dt there's a bit in the observer about locks

    Which one, today's?

  • must be, the Observer is only published on Sunday.

  • so whats the consensus then? I just today bought an abus granit-plus level 10 today with a kryptonite braided cable. I made the mistake of buying before checking on here. Now i want to have it exchanged for the krypto d-lock. is the fug so much better than the 3000 that it merits waiting for the order over the web? and now i feel i shouldve gotten the albus round chain as as combo rather than the cable...

    i just know evans is gonna give me shit for changing things around. bastards.

  • I wonder if it possible to strip the Kryponite one and paint it?

    yes, the fug is better than the 3000, one; less levage room, two; not enough room for tools, three; small and strong is better than big and strong, remember to register your lock in their website in case you lost all the keys thought.

    my idea combination? the Kryptonite Evolution Mini and Fahgettaboutit Mini, the Evolution Mini for locking bike in board daylight/under 1 hour, the Fah for dusk/over 1 hours.

    or a combination, Evo Mini to lock front wheel, and Fah to lock frame and rear wheel to whatever thing that's sticking out of the ground.

    plus, after you held one, you'll feel so much better that it'll be less likely to get stolen in board daylight when you're popping off to the shop.

  • It is worth reading this thread it is quite interesting

    +1 <--- lookie, i think i used it right. the videos on the duplicate threads are also well worth watching. well some of them at least.

    that does sound like a good combo. do people agree on this?? id like a consensus. I bought a bike yesterday and im fucking paranoid.

  • mate, everyone went through a highly paranoid phrase when they got their new bike.

  • This is how I lock my bike if I want to be sure that it's there for a prolong period of time (just pretend the long metal stick is a lamp post or summat);

    Sheldon Brown method is this, thought I didn't dare to try it as it might give the theft the wrong idea that I lock my bike up badly and try and attempt to removed it;

    i dont doubt that. death be to anyone that dare attempt steal it or anyone else's. im sorting out insurance as well tonight.

  • I lock a similar way to Edscroble. Put the fug round the rear wheel, but through the seat stays as well. That way it is off the ground (makes it difficult to attack with croppers) and Sheldon style but a thief won't try to remove the wheel, just to see if they can nick it.

    Plus I wouldn't bother putting the mini lock round the frame, just to another bit of street furniture.
