  • In the 50's (prob before too) several builders used the name Road/Path to describe a frame which could be used on the track and for time trialling as well as general use. They often had (mine did) mudguard fittings as well. Usually two sets of wheels, one pressures, the other sprints.
    I used the same frame (Carpenter) to ride to work, train. time-trial(carrying sprints in sprint carriers to the start), and race on hard and grass tracks! It served me well until after three years I could afford a second bike, an Ephgrave road bike.
