Anybody bought a bike shed for their yard? Wood or metal or what? Is a cheapo one gonna make my bikes rusty?
I think I'm gonna have to fork out for this

    anybody?

  • yard? you lucky man ;)

  • wood is good.

  • I got a wooden sort of 'mini-shed' for my girlfriend's wee brother to use as a play house (he's 2, she's 23, I'm not being illegal) from B&Q for £40. It was ex-display, pretty solid and waterproof and could fit 3 or 4 bikes easily. If I had more room I'd be looking out for another one.

  • Just get a heated room like 31trum's girl's dad has.

  • yes don't leave your bikes out they need your warmth take them to bed with you

  • @tommy that room is bigger than my house.

  • I've a shed out the back with a radiator in it. Perfect. Enough space for routine maintainance and all.

I found something called a 'lad's shed' on B&Q, but the measurements are tiny (length looks to be a problem)... is this the one you're talking about? Unfortunately the as new one will cost me £150 not £40.

    cheers

  • No, it was actually a bike specific shed, ie. not overly tall and had double doors on the side instead of one of the narrow ends. Never thought I'd be jealous of a two year old, may commender it as he actually never uses it.

Check out the shed section of the B&Q on Old Kent Road, they sometimes lift down the ex display sheds and try and sell them before dumping them. That one I got for £40 was originally nearer £100.

Only problem is you have to dismantle it and move it yourself as they don't really want anything to do with it.

You gotta weigh up whether you can be arsed looking then doing all the work just to save money. In my case it was a necessity. Their kids playhouses are half the size of that lads' shed but £150+.

  • There's a thread on this.. search for "bike storage" or similar. I remember adding to it recently when asking about those indoor racks.

  • Thanks Stevo and Hippy. And all the wise guys too.

  • that shed in the first place isn't very secure, my mate had one in his front yard and some pikeys just broke the hinges off. :(

  • ta dogs. I'm looking for something for my backyard, there's no access so theft isn't really the issue. Space is (well my gf is actually! - maybe time to find some girlfriend storage instead)

  • if you do end up getting anything, chances are you'd need to beef it up a bit. stronger hinges locks etc. they usually come with something just strong enough to hold them together.

  • reminds me i need to get some hangers for the imminent arrival of the holdsworth
