    My Brompton:

great work! interesting - how does that tensioner thing work on a fixed?[/quote]

Yeah, I'm a bit puzzled by that.

Not sure if I'll bother even trying fixing my Brompton because I need to sell it once I move out of halls and get my proper fix back from home. sigh

  • @edmundane; eeehhhh...

I know the tensioner thing shouldn't really work! If you want one to fold you have to have one as it gains about 3-4 inches of length when you collapse the rear. The reason it actually does work is because I've managed to shorten the chain by four links which makes it so short it basically can't come off as long as the rear doesn't collapse in use, (so the tensioner is not taking up any tangible slack) and secondly because there's a wee clip that holds the hinging back to the back of the seatpost that stops unwanted slack 'happening' when it's travelling over bumps. It's pretty solid - I can brake with my legs as normal and even pull the odd wee skid... :)

  • Hey Tracey,
Trixie Chix is tonight. Vic will be there (if it's not raining) I reckon and you can check out all the "ladie's" frames there. We could get a good measurement of what size frame and what's comfortable, etc...
check the TC thread for details

  • Sorry won't be there tonight (check your mail Roxy) - dinner with an elusive and little-seen pal.

  • pssh, that craze is over, its all about walking bikes now....

Ahhh interesting. I was pondering about it today in a rather boring lecture.

Any chance of a picture of the tensioner/dropout/cog area? I'm tempted to fix mine up depending on how big my tax rebate is in April.

I do love riding mine and all but not sure whether I want to drop that much money on it when I've got my proper fix back home (5 months to go...)

  • @eeehhhh
It is something to ponder. It shouldn't work!
Got pix on my flickr account if you want a looksee:

  • little you are slowly helping me over my hatred of folding bikes... i still think they are wrong mind... but its getting a little closer.

  • @littlepixel

I'm very impressed, it looks very good! Mine is screaming at me now to rip all the parts off and convert.

  • They aren't wrong when you chuck it on a plane with no excess baggage cost and then get to skootch around manhattan when on your holidays. This is what I've learnt anyway. A lot better than an MTB hirebike :)

  • Not sure if I've missed the boat on this thread, but the title reminded me of this little beauty...

  • Whoops, sorry Vics!

    Ebay etiquette is a bugger.

  • SO I shouldn't post a pic of how nice it looks? ;-)
