Cheap(ish) Merino

Was just in my local Uniqlo and they have loads of merino in there ,all colours, stripey as well most of its 20 quid

they use the pantone colour chart don't they?

Which one? I've checked the the Plaza,Regents St and Bromley branches but no plain non stripey merino crew necks in stock.

my local is Wimbledon, shed loads in there.

check the flagship store, that's what the adverts mention. probably haven't been stocked in all the other branches yet i'm guessing?

I'll give my standard bump for the clearance rail at the back of the Katmandu store on Berners st. ; merino base tees for £10-20 and beanies for £3-7 depending on colour.

I've been wondering whether to start a merino thread, after being on hols down under.

Oh My God how awesome is New Zealand for merino stuff. Icebreaker is absolutely brillaint and cheap(ish) over there. I bought loads of good stuff: two t's, leggings, beanie, socks x 2 (merino socks, yay!), pants.

Will have to chek out Uniqlo. Thanks for the tip :-)

I've had 3 from Uniqlo and they've held up alright so far (haven't seen much washing machine action).

My wife got a couple, and the quality was pretty shit. Neckline just tore away from the body on 2 of them. I think you get what you pay for.

The howies shop on carnaby st has their brilliant merino tops in the sale. The vests are £15.
They last as well. A uniqlo merino top that I brought last year only lasted 3 months.

For those out West, the Hammersmith T K Maxx has Smartwool stuff in at about £16.99 - tops and bottoms. Mostly size L / XL though. Got a cool pair of winter-weight 3/4 long-johns though, perfect under trousers on really cold days.

i have a couple of the uniclo jumpers any they have been good servants this winter, wasthinking of getting that water proof jacket in Howies but it was too expensive :(
