maybe get a RPM crank, then replace ring with gerbhadt?! BLB standard sugino RD £65.
£45 is tight though, especially inc ring.

i bought a set of Stronglight ST-100O track cranks off of Ribble (.co.uk) last week. they are selling them for 50 squid plus 10% off in the january sale (make sure you type in the code mentioned on their home page) = 45 pounds. sans ring though. JIS taper, 170mm, 130bcd. delivered very promptly. with your 103mm BB (which i presume is a sugino?) you should achieve a perfect chainline. my 107mm BB is very nearly there.
hope this helped.
why 'Arup'? you work for them?

The stronglight one take 130mm rings which are easy to find for cheap as long as you're happy to use a shimano road ring. They look alright too.

or the 'matching stronglight rings (1/8 track £25, 3/32 'dural' road £10, 3/32 'zircal' road £20)
get involved.

http://www.spacycles.co.uk are probably cheapest for Stronglight rings.
I bought mine off Will at hubjub even though he told me spa would be cheaper coz anyone who's that nice deserves my money. :) -

i think with a stronglight on a 107mm JIS BB will give a 44mm (so called french standard) chainline. so with your 103mm BB (JIS i assume?) plus a shimano road chainring (thinner and more forgiving on the chainline) you should be able to knock it off quite close to your price range and have it running smooth.
Superprecise why 'Arup'? you work for them?
that's his real name, and it's a real name.

Cheers for the input guys. Just got up after an afternoon nap. Not a luxury any more but a necessity.
Get what you pay for I guess. Was hoping someone might have something knocking about for a bit cheaper than new. My BB is a Shimano on. Don't know which one though unless I take the cranks off again. Not sure if it's JIS. I'll get the ruler out and measure the chainline.
And yeah, my name is Arup. Fairly common in Calcutta. Not quite your Dave or John equivalent, but fairly well known in those parts.

I have a sugino 75 set with 175 cranks and a 48t ring if you're interested. I could do with a wheel build...

Well I'm headed for my first fixed and have 2 singlespeeds that are being cannabalized so a set would be ideal. I'm all up for some bargaining here...!

I am now in the same boat, looking for an ok set of cranks, I recon i can spend about £100 on a set of cranks, BB, chainring (bout 38t ideally), and chain (1/8" btw)
Ribble it out of stock on its stronglight cranks until april which is too long for me to wait (bike is out of action till i find these bits)
Please help me, thanks -

what are the stronglight cranks like?
-
• #18
I've had no problems with mine*, and they're quite light. Pretty similar to the Miche Primato, I think.
(* Apart from when I didn't check if the self-extracting crank bolt's dust cap was done up tightly before attempting removal, and therefore stripping the crank-extraction threads. Idiot.)

Please help me, thanksif you look for proper track cranks it's hard to find one that comes with such a small chainring. the smallest normally start at 42t. a sprocket isn't that expensive, maybe it'll be better to change the sprocket?
ones within your range:
sugino RD
miche primato
stronglightwhat else...? cant remember from the top of my head

Tom Bigmac has a 32 on his Charge.
BMX item I believe.
It's in the "names & faces@ thread.
Anyone have a set of square taper cranks they wanna sell? Just been onto hubjub about their Sugino RD cranks with the 44T ring but they are out of stock. Don't really want to spend more than that. My current ring is 42T and 110 BCD and 172.5 length. My BB is 103mm. I'm happy to pay up to £45. Or that plus a wheel build.
My current cranks cause the ring to move to and from the seat tube which is really crap for the chain tension and chainline. Very annoying. Chain tugs help but I can't stand it any longer. I want my drive train super smooth. Please check your shed.
