I went to Awesome Walls in Liverpool last night, first time in ages. Stopped climbing 3 years ago after the birth of my kids.
My head just wasn't right for it, I'd forgotton how scary it was trying to make a clip when you're pumped... despite over 10 years of climbing experience over the last 18 years.I was a gibbering wreck :(
If anyone's around Liverpool or Warrington let me know. -

this is certainly something I'd be interested in. I've only climbed about twice before, I don't know anyone on here and i'm not running fixed yet so...
the idea of a beginner course sounds good, any idea how hard that would hit the wallet?

Hey, never been before and new ('ish) to the forum. would be cool to come along as well though.
I've met at least one of you guys in the flesh before (tommy).
Anyways, count me in if that's cool.

Right. This looks like it now needs some actual organising.
This is a list of beginners courses & prices associated
In the mean time, is there anyone who's experienced at leading, French 6B+(ish) that want's a new partner? I've got one fixed weekly partner (Thursday evenings) but am looking for another :]

Object, I agree, we need some organising and that will probably fall to me.
So, my usual climbing night is Wednesday, so I am going to propose Wednesday next week (!!!) to meet up at the Castle at about 6:30ish.
Hopefully we will have enough members to sign in beginners. I think that the deal is that beginners can belay if the members feel happy to let them, so that is down to us.
Who is a member at the Castle already?
Object, as for a climbing partner, I don't think I'll be good enough for you. I have never done leading but want to do that next. Tend to climb around 6a at Westway, which seems easier than 6a at the Castle. I feel the need for some more training / partner input to get better...

Is that english 6a though? Bouldering I climb english 5c to 6a
French 6b+ works out as 5c(ish) in English grades. That said If you want to try leading I'd be happy to bring a rope along for a session. I just love getting people addicted to it :]

I used to climb roughly the same grades as you dude, but unfortunately cycling has replaced climbing as my main addiction while in London (got sick of walls) so my fitness is crappy at the moment. Would prob be up for the occasional climb though and hope to get some fitness back.

I am not sure of the English / French division. All I know is that at the Westway I cna climb 6a+ / 6b. At the Castle, I am lucky to get up a 5b.
I would love to have a go at leading if you bring a rope - been meaning to sign up to a leading course for ages...

Done and done. I'll throw it in my bag for Wednesday.

I'm member at the castle, so I can take 2 beginners or people not signed, Wednesday would be ok, but why don't we go just bouldering? more fun for the beginners and is nice to do in group(s)..
-
• #38
I was assuming that we would be mainly bouldering to be honest. Just hoping Mashton and myself can have a little leading too, though we can do that another day I suppose.

I'm a member but lost my card after I left my wallet in a taxi.. duuur.
Might be able to do weds.

OK, is 6:30 a good time for this or would it be better waiting till 7?
Since we will need emmebrs to sign in beginners, we will need to be quite punctual and all go in together (ish).

i'm happy to go this week and next (unless it's far more expensive than i realise), but i'm also happy to wait until next week. i'll just do lots of pull ups in anticipation. (since cycling took over as my main activity, my upper body strength has gone to shit)
-

OK, let's reschedule for next week, the 6th February

I have a free voucher for the Castle....which they gave me in return for some photos I sent them....my house overlooks it....it might have expired by now, 'twas over a year ago.
Brownswood Pk tavern is where they all hang out with their fixed wheel machines outside and decent thai food inside....let me know when you go....might join you for that bit!
