Might seem silly and I might get shot down for saying this but you know how quickly your crank arms seem to come loose if the bolt ain't on tight, well try that, ride around for a bit with the crank bolt un-done and see if the spinning / body weight helps loosen it??
Just a thought

check your crank puller, some of the cheaper ones have shorter thread heights so they take the tops of threads off. try a pedros one, they tend to get the best grip. try tightening the crank puller all the way in and removing the cranks real slow, see if you can feel the puller move or the crank move. if the puller moves, go to a shop, they'll have a tool that looks similar to a tuning fork but i wedged so it can allpy force between the spider and the bb cup. good luck!

Heat the crank up with a hot air gun / dip it in really really really hott water. Worth a shot?
Also try a breaker bar - to get more leverage on the crank / puller / both. I used an old BMX seatpost that I flattened down to fit oer the crank extractor handle. -

heat them up with a gas tourch if the crank and the spindel are differnt metals one will grow quickr ten it will come off

That is a ball joint remover if it is like this.

Thanks guys, i'm going to try the hot water idea. I dunno if it's because the BB cups are loose, but the arm bolts keep working themselves loose anyway... doesnt make it any easier to get the damn cranks off though...

If you have the non drive side off remove the b.b cup from the non drive side and then you can with a bit of fingure fiddling unscrew the b.b from the frame. You are now free to work with out a big awkward frame in the way. Now you can just get a large hammer and punch to bang out the b.b spindle from the crank.

fucking hell, any hints on how to get the top off of an aheadset when the bolt has stopped gripping inside? the damn thing is just spinning around... fucking hell i'm never putting a bike together myself ever again

Drill those head set star things are cheap so just drill the bolt and replace it.

You need a fly wheel puller for a Mini (as in the little 60's cars)...
Thisis not a joke I have done it as I have f'ed up loads of crank threads over the years. It may cost you a chain ring but you save your cranks.
I have one if you happen to be anywhere near Cambridge... -

What about you fella? -

I heard that wrapping the crank puller in teflon tape (ie plumbers tape) can help where the removal threads are stripped though I haven't tried it myself.

Tommy's removal and hammer and punch idea would work best. But if that doesn't work/isn't possible, riding the bike with the crank bolts out can work too. Be sure to be on the ball when it does eventually come loose.

Riding the bike with the bolts out sounds like a wonderful way to round out the socket and ensure that they're unusable.
When you put the BB cups back in (after you've got the crank off of course), grease them up with something gloopy. I got something from my local bike shop that looks like hair wax, forget what it's called. If you've greased the threads up well with that stuff the cups will stop coming out.

Aye, that's what I meant by being on the ball when they come loose, it is one of a few last resorts but it does work.
I'm trying to swap all the nice stuff from my alu bike to my bianchi pista, but my sugino rd (messenger zen) cranks are giving me major grief. the non drive side came off without any problems, but the drive side is completely jammed. Not only that, but the crank puller i'm using has stripped some of the threads on the drive side making it really bloody difficult to get the crank puller back in for another go.
Thing is one of the reasons i'm taking them off is because the BB cups have come loose - I can't see how, but could the loose BB cup on the drive side be what's giving me grief?
So i guess does anyone have any hints as to how to get the crank off, considering one person pushing down on the crank arm and me pushing down on the puller arm wasn't enough to budge it?
By the way, These cranks have been on for less than a month.
