Advice please...

Hey all.

Have been lurking here for a while and after having my bike stolen again am feeling the need to get a fixed wheel bike for some london fun so thought I would say hello and see if i can get any advice. I am no expert but I have about £800 to get a completed bike. If you had this budget would you buy off the peg or has anyone got any ideas of places to contact. I don't want to look like a hoxton twat, just want something that's fun that I can hack around town on.

Myself I would buy an off the peg bobjackson frame and build that up. That is me though.

Thanks people. And provenrad thanks I will have a look at that. I did try and find a thread but couldn't so will check that one now. To be honest I hate the two trains I have to get to work so much I may just drop the lot on a Wilier Pista and then get lost in this world as I get more understanding of it. I just have to get off the tube asap.

A CONdor will cost the same for a basic Pista.

Yeah I looked at the Condors. Lovely. I read a few people have Pearson Touches on here. Thats looking like a very nice bike. May have to go and test ride one of those.

if you're getting them nicked regularly it makes sense to just get something functional and not get too sentimental over it

i'd say buy a frame then build it up how you want it. i've built my last three bikes and it's much more satisfying than buying off the peg or specifying a build in a shop
my bareknuckle cost me about £600 in total (i did get the frame for less than half price on ebay). but it looks like you need it quick so shop job might be best for you

despite the piss take we sometimes dish out to those posh condor owners, you'd be hard pushed to find a better riding machine than those, at that price.

as I'm sure you want to ride the bike, rather than post pictures of it all over the internet and walk it to coffee shops?
