Campag Record Pista BB vs Phil Wood Steel BB

Posted on
  • i was going to order a phil wood bb, but cant work their site now im considering a campag record pista... any thoughts?

  • was going to answer this thought in the other thread, owell. not a good exchange. unless you want the campag for an entirely different purpose to the phil. campag will break. phil won't. they may be an annoying company to deal with but it's well worth the hassle.

  • how much you got to spend buddy?thought about royce BB?

  • Unsealed track BB vs one of the most durable and well sealed BBs around? Depends what you want it for really. There are also much cheaper sealed BBs from Campy and Shimano depending on what cranks you have.

  • the dollar is too weak for the royce... will probly grab a phil form thebikebiz or some website i can actuly work.

  • I just sent my BB back to Phil Wood a few hours ago, something was wrong with it. Sent them an email and they were great about it, said 'Send it back, we'll fix it'.
    :)

  • wonder if i would get the same result about their website... im a grumpy old man now.

  • I am not an expert but just spoke to someone at condor today and have been told today that the campag record pista is no good for day to day riding. Its good for the track but aparently they just had a case where it broke after just 3 weeks of road use. Must be true as otherwise why would they have recommended me cheaper campag one. I would have bought the record one and probably spent money again after a few weeks once it has broken down. So decent advice / CON-dor does not apply.

  • i had an old but not too well used loose ball campag track bb but one of the bearings popped after a couple of weeks riding, now i just use a cheapo shimano one and ceap the shiny campag one in a box.

  • interested in the same subject. I have campy record cranks. What would everyone reccommend for the bb? Bike is still being build. Should be a good one to match other quite high end parts although Phil is a bit beyond the budged. Also the frame needs 111 italian threading. Been told Chorus triple would be a good one. Any experience / advice?
