Is it dead???

Morning all,

I had a nightmare day on Saturday. Cycling in from West to play footie at vicky park, I catch a flat at Liverpool street. I changed the inner tube, continued and three minutes later the same thing has happened. Checked the rim and found that at the point where the two "ends" of the rim meet, one side is indented by a mil or two, leaving an edge to catch the tyre and puncture I think.

I run Velocity on rims, fyi.

Does anyone know if this can be fixed with some elbow grease and tlc, or if the structure of the wheel is now compromised. I will try to get a photo of the damage if that helps. Just want to know if i can resue it, or whether its time to build a new wheel. I was thinking of geting some plyers and trying to straighten it out???????

Cover it with electrical tape or a tyre boot.

Thanks guys - I'll get my tool kit out and try the rim on a new tyre.

you should be able to file it smooth, are they pinned or welded joints?

Not sure, would say welded at a guess, and from my memory of swearing at it in the rain on saturday. It looked like it had taken a knock right on the joint, and pushed one side in by a small amount. The indent is probably about 1cm along the diameter and about 1 or 2mm indented.

I'll give it some TLC this week to see if I can get it back ship shape. Bought a new wheel on sat anyway, so can at least continue moving!

well you just never know with those bombproof velocitys!

I reckon you gotta asses how bad it's going to be if you band it back with pliers, it won't be very nice if it decides to part company when you're doing 35mph downhill.

not to mention fucking up another tyre
