Would you run?

Posted on
  • I was just watching pedal again (brilliant film) and having read about a few people getting tickets for filtering through red lights it lead me to wonder...
Would you stop, or would you run? (well cycle) out of interest what happens if they catch you (and you ran)?
    Just wondering

  • How do you 'filter' through a red?

WARNING WARNING WARNING C+ RLJ THREAD IMMINENT WARNING WARNING WARNING

  • i ran ... but stopped after a minute cos i was a pussy.

  • ...and the sirens were so loud i thought it was a motorcycle!

  • A mate ran... and a policeman tried to push ~~me ~~him off ~~my ~~ his bike. Luckily he failed, and said cyclist wobbled on his way...

  • C+ RLJ thread?
    care to expand hippy

  • if he expands any more, he won't be able to get out of his house unless they take a wall down

  • Fuck off.. I'm lighter than ever.. anorexic.. fed by IV.. there'll be documentaries about me soon..

    LOL

C+ was the Cycling Plus forum (now: http://www.bikeradar.com/road/forums) full of commuters and cycling dorks (like me) and famous for stupid, endless threads about red light jumping and shit.

  • this is about running from the police, thats much more fun lol

  • They never seem to take interest in me but I'd feign ignorance and gradually up the pace hoping to lose them in traffic. Worked once with a cop van after I'd busted a red while it happened to be at the front of the queue. Oops ;)

    but you're still 90+kg's :O

  • Did it twice succesfully. But stopped as many times and gracefully received my ticket. If you do run make sure you know where you're going and have an escape route ready. Meaning an obstacle that a police car cannot pass.

Mind you they usually have radio's aswell. PARANOIA !

  • Been stopped once - did run eventually. Got pulled over by Islington Design Centre for 'pre-empting' the lights (didn't stop at first cos I thought the bike pig was giving me a friendly wave of solidarity (what was I thinking?)).

Was lectured for toooooo long, having explained (truthfully) that it was my first day in a new job, and I was probably a bit excited about the TdF just starting.

Anyway, got cautioned and carried on towards Highgate. When I got to the Holloway Odeon, I realized he was tailing me. I was in a hurry, and despite being loaded up with 2 panniers of textbooks, I knew I could dish out the pain on Highgate Hill (from the Archway 1-way system). Turned round to check what was happening at the first set of lights, and he was weaving all over the road in a stupid granny gear.

To quote Alan Partridge in his interview about his autobiography: "Needless to say, I HAD THE LAST LAUGH" ;)

  • Stopping gets you a £30 ticket.

Not stopping can be considered "failing to stop for Police" a different offence for which you can get another £30 ticket.

To prove FTS they have to show you knew they wanted you to stop.

So: Keep going and dont look back!

If they catch you claim, "really sorry, would have stopped had I known"

Remember sirens are very very common in london......................

    Toodle pip

  • tut, tut - running way from plod gives cycling a bad name and is bad for the 'movement'

  • i ran once, went through a red light and saw the evil fluro jacket from the corner of my eye on the other side of the road, he stuck his hand up to me but made like i didnt see it and carried on pedaling. i upped my pace slightly and then cut off high hloborn and went through new square in lincolns inn fields. unfortunately for me the exit i chose was blocked by a van he came up next to me and looking all sweaty, puffing and red faced grabbed my arm. i took my i pod headphones off and swore blind i couldnt hear his little siren going or his calls for me to stop because of the music and the reason for going through the red light was my being more concerned with the driver on my right at the lights cutting me up. anyway he gave me a little lecture, checked my details and i got off with a warning. it was funny just to see the sweat pouring off him and trying to talk for that first minute i did ask him if he was ok.

  • dogsballs [quote]but you're still 90+kg's :O

So's Magnus Backstedt. What's your point stick bandit?

  • you gotta run run run run run, take a drag or two.

  • I am curious why do you think it's a brilliant film?

  • I'd have to say its prob just the characters in it, its not like it has loads of really great cycling, but its an interesting viewpoint of a collection of people I know very little about. kind of intrigues me, how bout others any opinions?

  • it's an ok film if a little odd in places.

Interesting characters and setting of course

As a documentary, it's definitely a fair leap above the skate-flick styling of Mash… IMHO.
Kind of like Dark Days meets the Mashsters.
Still haven't seen BIKE yet. That should be cracking…
