• Does anyone have any experience of Alien Bikes? More specifically their wheels? I talked to the guy and you can get a set of wheels shipped over for US$221 or £110.

They are "New School black on black style, with strong 32mm deep section pinned-joint rims and 36 spokes laced 3-cross to our high flange hubs. Single-sided for fixed only. Includes 1/8" 16T cog and lockring. Replaceable cartridge bearings. Black stainless 14g spokes with black brass nipples. Non machined sidewalls for a clean look"

They look good, and the price is great, but what is the quaility like?

• no idea bout quality, but he seems like a nice fella, been emailing a bit with him. He also says he's been riding them for thousands of miles without any troubles

• why not black deep v's, black on-one hubs, black spokes, then lace it yourself for same money ;)

• dogsballs why not black deep v's, black on-one hubs, black spokes, then lace it yourself for same money ;)

How about deep v's, hubs, spokes and get dogs to lace it up, cause I don't have a clue?

• it would probably be better if he taught you, so the next time you can do it yourself

seriously, it's not hard. man if bike shop mechanics can do it, then anyone can... (no offence to any bike mechanics). it helps if you have OCD like me though.

• Black on Black is a bit Operation Trident for my liking, get some colour in there

• as this seems slightly relevant anybody heard of white spokes, or would it have to be a custom powdercoating job?

• dogsballs seriously, it's not hard. man if bike shop mechanics can do it, then anyone can...

What an excuse to post this (Marky just reminded me of it) from Trackstar's Ask Zach

• flickwg as this seems slightly relevant anybody heard of white spokes, or would it have to be a custom powdercoating job?

I was wondering this the other day, and assumed the latter. Mass powder coating job at Armourtec?
Oh they'd love that: 150 individual spokes to thread-mask and paint up evenly... Yum!

• if we got the spokes, we can do a mass job, the rule i heard was £40 per colour regardless of amount
could split it, and see if anyone else wants any white parts

• CHUG_IT Black on Black is a bit Operation Trident for my liking, get some colour in there
lol

+1 for the powder coat white parts

• A little birdy suggested that Carlito might be after some white bits...

Question: When powder-coating hubs and rims, do the spoke holes need to be masked at all, or doesn't it make a difference once they're all threaded up?

I know Armourtec apparently do the masking for free, but a few boxes of spokes? What do you reckon?

• i'm gonna give them a ring tomorrow, i think i might have some hubs to be done and a frame, i'll see what the limit is.
we could make it a group thing for the whole forum but they may get a bit suspicious
ohh and its armourtex

• i seen white spokes, seen them in london i did.

i also saw white spoke nipples on an otherwise totaly black bike. that shit was hot.

• CHUG_IT Black on Black is a bit Operation Trident for my liking, get some colour in there

CHUG_IT will signing autographs along with Sir Ian Blair in the lobby . . .

• +1 for the white powder coated spokes. Anyone got any knowledge of powdercoating rims? I'd quite like to get my open pro's done so i'm not tempted to get horrible heavy deep vs...

• fc9k I'd quite like to get my open pro's done so i'm not tempted to get horrible heavy deep vs...

Kinda my thinking…

• addie
fc9k I'd quite like to get my open pro's done so i'm not tempted to get horrible heavy deep vs...

Kinda my thinking…
when you've built wheels and seen how much open pro's move around when lacing you bless yourself that your running deep v's, especially on london's roads/goat-tracks.

• deep-v's are good and stiff

• ^^^
But they cost money, weigh a tonne, and everyone one and their dog (no offense) has one…
I love them, but I have so many sodding rims and wheels knocking around…

Ah feck it. Maybe I'll just buy a Deep V. Or a CXP33 (and spray it white).
(Hate not having money but still wanting stuff. Buggery!)

• what, only a fiver dearer than open pro's and the similar if CD version. yeah and only half a billion people have open pro's.

• Fair point.
But slap my face and call me a whiney bitch then why doncha!
