This cycle orientated band could sing "I got a brand new fixed gear bicycle" to the music of "The Combine Harvester" by the Wurzels. Not sure about the lyrical content after that but its a start.

I rode my fixed gear through your hood last night
(ooh aah ooh aah)
I threw me D-lock at your dog to keep quiet
(ooh aah ooh aah)
Now something's telling me
That you'm avoiding me
Come on now darling you've got something I needCuz I got a brand new fixed gear bicycle
An' I'll give you a back-key
Come on now let's get together
In perfect harmony
I got twenty arrospok
An' you got forty-three
Now I got a brand new fixed gear bicycle
An' I'll give you a back-keyShe made I laugh ha ha
I'll stick by you, I'll give you all that you need
We'll 'ave Condors and Jacksons
I'm a man built for speed
And you know I'll love you darlin'
So give me your hand
But what I want the most
Is for you to teach me trackstandCuz I got a brand new fixed gear bicycle
An' I'll lend you my allen key
Come on now let's get together
In perfect harmony
I got twenty arrospok
An' you got forty-three
Now I got a brand new fixed gear bicycle
I'll lend you my allen keyEtc etc.

I already did a tune named after Major Taylor, which is at:
http://www.voodootrombonequartet.com/GoodShit/VTQ/ThePhantomEP/02-Major_Taylor_Bicyclist.mp3
No words, but it has that er...vintage track vibe about it...
[edited: changed it to correct track]

back in '02 you certainly weren't the only one..
my mate Alex "freeride" Boyle rode a blue klein mantra everywhere, all the time.
what an incredibly shit bike, full suss that only works if you are sitting down, duuuuuurrrggg

Yep! unweighed the rear end kind of locks up hardtail-like, I am not sure if this was a deliberated design thing but it was brilliant for out of the saddle climbing - and on the way back down hill you weight the rear with your big fat arse and the suspension kicks in - worked for me.
There have, of course been a million better suspension deigns since, but it was I had fun.

Have been musing for more years than I care to mention about getting another band together. Can't be arsed with original material (no-one wants to hear it anyway), so it's got to be covers. Ideas (somewhat 80s biased):
- Smiths tribute (I'll mangle the Marr, just need Mozzer, Joyce and Rourke);
- Chic / Sister Sledge tribute (I'll be Nile, just need Bernard and some girlie singers);
- Orange Juice tribute;
- or Kraftwerk Unplugged (acoustic guitars and various pots & pans)?
- Smiths tribute (I'll mangle the Marr, just need Mozzer, Joyce and Rourke);

advert covers? awesome. :D
but seriously, tom? anyone?

we could do covers of all the songs on Mash.
we could all get involved, it'd be like a big Geldof-style choir.

OK, matt (baddesigner) is the drummer and I'm playing bass (unless forced onto guitar), so I guess we need another guitarist or bass player.
Question is, who actually wants to be in the thrash/hardcore band? I've seen a lot of mention of dub/ska/blues but I'm not interested in that.

I play bass, have done for a fair while.
Although not sure if I want to play thrash/hardcore. I was in a reasonably alright grindcore band back in college, was good fun playing live but I couldn't really ever take it seriously!
-

What was it about your grindcore band that you couldn't take seriously? I'd be willing to split the difference and do some Iron Lung style Power Violence

yeah, I'll do it.
guitar.
haven't an electric at the moment but it's not a problem, I've got full tattoo sleeves, a bad attitude and can fart for England

OK, so it looks like the starting line up is me, RPM and Matt (baddesigner), saxes, oboes, accordions, MPCs, etc to come a bit later. Probably going to need a vocalist though. Anyone?
-
• #74
i know a vocalist, but you have to take mee on harmonica and my mate on kazoo to get her.

ill pratcie on the buss for the next day.5 that will be a good way not to get beat up
we talkin' National Style O, one of the newer ones not an original :( Mines about 10 years old now, sounds awesome! Just sold an amazing little old Lyon & Healy parlor from 1921 which just oozed tone when played with a slide. Finances meant It had to go though. Shame.
