  • Anyone had this trouble before? Being used in a charge plug frame, does anyone have experience with which chain tensioners best fit the hubs?

    Tom

  • the mks ones fit,but you have to put them on outside the frame, because they are made for a 10mm axle, and golgec's use a 12mm with flat top and bottoms.
mine used to slip a little bit, no longer.

  • every hub slips.......so there......

  • Chain tugs. They are not "tensioners".

Tighten the axle nuts more. All rear wheels will loosen over time and need adjusting.

Cheers mate, will look into those...

No need to be patronising, I know wheels slip, | work in a shop and have owned both BMX's and fixed wheel bikes. I just need "chain tugs" that fit the stepped axles on goldtec hubs (which by the way don't have axle nuts, they have allen bolts)

    Tom

  • I found that the only problem with goldtec hubs is that the alloy caps for the allen bolts are too weak to handle the kinda torque you usually put on track nuts. I replaced them with a couple of locknuts from a loose ball hub and its a big improvement. These locnuts are serrated and steel so they will sort you out. Add a tugnut on the drive side (don't worry about other side) for full on slip free action

Btw I asked BETD why they don't use steel caps and its because they can't colour match them to the hubs.

    you are welcome...

  • yeah, I use some drilled out caps from an older DMR revolver hub, they are alloy but have knurled steel inserts, they BITE.

still put an mks on the drive side though.

in summary, the OP needs to get an MKS tug

  • yeah wot he said.

get a mks tug on the outside

  • How do I know your work or your friggin experience? You asked the question, I provided a reasonable, non-patronising answer.

    which bikeshop is it btw?????
shop experience can be a bit of a relative term.......
when you ask a guy in e...ns to bring you oversized lo-pro bars and he brings you drops standard.....you say no not this, but lo pro....and he dissapears and brings you another pair of drops:-)

Fair enough mate, I guess I just thought "tighten the axle nuts more" was a bit obvious.

Cheers anyway guys, I'll dig out some steel caps and order an MKS chain tug.

  • PS. I don't work in Ev...ns! An independant shop.

    which one???

  • Not sure it's important mate, I'd rather not say. I'm not trying to hide anything just don't feel like I should be disclosing that kind of information.

Measure the thickness of your dropouts first: there are two sizes available.

I have a pair of unused 5mm available if that helps.

A lot of people don't 'put in' when it comes to locking in their wheels.. you need to be drawing blood or suffering some kind of bone compression or it's just not right ;)

    as you wish......was just wondering;-)

  • only minor problem i've ever had with goldtecs, but as above i run a mks chain-tug on the drive side as murtle said, but inside out (tag on outside instead of usual inside and the writing facing inwards). other than that they are awesome hubs, better value than phils.

  • The writing and oh-so-precious NJS logo is on the end bit anyway (which rotates).

  • I find them totally unecessary when the wheel has no spokes.

  • Same problem - have used cheapo chain-tugs on the drive side, and penny washers x2 under the crappy alu washer on the non-drive side.

I don't give a toss if my hub washer matches the colour of my hub. That's pathetic.

  • kowalski I find them totally unecessary when the wheel has no spokes.

You obviously don't put down the same raw flange-grinding power hippy does :D

  • The thought of hippy flange-grinding has spoilt my dinner.
