  • mine is hand made, but by nature they are fragile because the prongs are so small, so you have to be gentle.

  • do you use threadlock dogs? it's just never occurred to me.

  • Those tools are only a couple of quid and when you have a stubborn bolt you'll be glad of owning one. I don't threadlock but I've lost chainring bolts before so I don't see why not. Depends on the type of threadlocker.. you could use the 'not actually glued solid' stuff just to add friction to the threads..

  • i have the tool hippy. when i look in my toolbox it is the only tool that i resent though. might go down the using a bit of gentle threadlock road then.

  • hahaha you resent your tool? :)
I hate using them, any of them.. I don't mind owning them though :)

I do harbour a certain hatred for these work PCs..

  • no threadlock, just tighten, then re-tighten after first ride ;)

  • Definately with you on hating the shitty chainring bolt tools. I reckon park tool are in cahoots with elastoplast.

  • At least the Parktool one is a half decent length. The ShimaNo one I've got is only about 3 to 3 1/2" long, perfect for dragging your knuckles on the chainring.

  • You're supposed to be wearing your keirin gloves when using the shimano one.. :P

hypothetically, what would you do if the allen hole WERE rounded off?? purely hypothetically of course.

also, hypothetically, i can't grip the bolt with pliers. is it drill time??

hypothetically, if th allen bolt hole is rounded i would try an odd uk allen key, ie: not metric, in the hole, either force it in, or glue it in, if glueing, leave over night, then attack the fucker gently in the morning. always managed to remove one, no matter what.
