Wet glass cuts much better than dry stuff. Chrisw that is ridiculous! You need a new route perhaps - stick to the roads till it dries out?
I would switch to Schwalbe Marathons, then Bonti Hardcases, then onto Spec. Armadillos, then try those solid rubber tyres, then rejoice for Spring will have sprung upon us. :-(
