Undo the clamp bolt right out, pop a coin in the slot and gently tighten the bolt to push against the coin and widen the opening a little.

great technique!

Sorry, forgot to say it depends on the bolt/clamp arrangement. In many models you have access to both sides of the threaded hole (I come from a MTB background) so you can reverse the bolt in to the threaded side and do it that way.

:o
Genius technique. I scratched the feck out of my drops, just as well I was chop&flopping

That's the problem with all these aluminium road bars - you just need to do so much as *look *at the shiny surface and it marks...
-

Are you worried people might peel off you handlebar tape to look at your bare bars?

call me thick as pigshit but I believe my quill stem does not open out magically like a cave door. I am thus having difficulty getting my drops out. The second part of this is about removing the drop brake levers/hoods from the bar if I must just waggle them through the stem..do I need special tool for this job?

svrewdriver in the quill slot, and bend it out slightly as you slide it off.
-
• #11
thanks dude..though it's a slide off rather than a slide out? If you see what I mean?
-
• #12
eh?
If you've got a normal quill (ie not one with a hinged clamp or removable section) you're obviously not going to get it off the bars without sliding it all the way along to the end of the drops. Sticking a screwdriver in and prising a bit makes the hole a bit bigger so you can get it round the curves of the drops.

cool that's what I thought. Somebody assured me different, think wires must have got crossed.
Cheers - so next question about brake levers n hoods comes into play..
-
• #14
should be able to pop the brakes.\/levers off by undoing one screw (And maybe bar tape)
-
• #15
Does any one know if you can squeeze one in, so to say?
I did a forum search, but apologies if this has been discussed already...
Cheers all.

You need an inverse shim.

unpossible

Can I use an inverse time shim to move myself to a time in life when I was happy? i.e. before I read this thread.

ha!
-
• #21
You need an inverse_shimo.
:)

• #22
Ha ha.

ah the old inverse shim... built by tooth-faeries, and delivered by Santa. I've got a couple on order from wiggle.

i recommend you follow the same method as these guys...but for your bar...
How to Prepare a Shrunken-Head
After an attack on the enemy, the victim or victims were killed and immediately decapitated. Sometimes the decapitation process occurred while the victim was still alive.
The head is cut off below the neck with a section of the skin from the chest and back is taken with it. The killer removes his woven head-band and passes it through the mouth and neck of the head and ties it over his shoulder to facilitate a rapid retreat from the victim's camp. Should the killer have no head band, the warrior will utilize a section of vine. The head shrinking process occurred in the following way:

but then do it to your own head.
Have some Cinelli drop bars which I'm trying to fit to a 3T quill stem in my possession. Having problems getting the stem around the curves of the drops - is there some special technique to getting it installed?
