• The forks are original, those Cannondales used to be alloy with steel forks... the model after, "Major Taylor" (grey and red, used to cost £1000 at Evans) had (alloy or carbon? can't remember now) non-steel forks and looked more modern... i remember that was my dream bike when i was in Brazil!

That, right there, is beautiful !

wow that was a good find for 50 dorra!, are you going to try convert it to that top frame? lump hammer. 12 beers and a weekend should sort that :D

haha that would be quite a challenge... maybe the power of a 100 Uri Gellers would come in handy to pull that trick off.
I didn't even know about that record attempt bike, I just couldn't not buy a frame that beautiful at that ridiculous price. Mind you, It remained unsold for about 3 months before I decided to get it... kinda shows you how blasé Belgians (that's where i'm from) have become about race bikes as there are so many here.
hehe, right im checking flights to belgium! i know this might be like one of those questions which borders on bike racism ..but are there loads of eddy merckx therefore loads of secondhand bargins over there?
There are quite some Merckx bikes around but since Merckx is the most famous name around in cycling, the prices are higher than for comparable frames of other brands, lots of demand too...
I'm looking for a 2nd hand one of these, cheap:

(shot at the Ghent 6 days)
;)

• Roberto £€$ The frame is beautiful - i have a Moser too, although it has an ocean between me and her (the bike is left in Brazil)...

Anyway i would build your frame with GEARS! And a 8 or 9 speed Campag groupset... don't be afraid of using gears :)

Nah, I've got a geared bike already (specialized sequoia) but Antwerp's as flat as a pancake so I prefer to ride a singlespeed around here.

I've also got another moser (my first singlespeed), which I bought for 20 euros. It was spraypainted and looked like shit, so I got it powder-coated mint green.

the front brake is missing on that pic though and it's got a different saddle now. anyhow, sorry for posting a 2nd reader's wife in the porn thread ;)

Actually there are quite some cheap Mosers around here. I probably shouldn't say that, but buy them instead and put them on e-bay before someone else does. ;)

The front wheel seems to be a Mavic IO... but the rear as well?

• I used the first decent weather this year to get a photo of my new build. Sadly its got to go straight on ebay.

• i really like your wheel. (the front one) nice frame what is it?

• Its a Makino

• I like this bridgestone frame a lot:

check out all the available colours as well... click!
Although I'd go for a solid colour with just 1 decal on each side... that is, if I could afford it... the cheaper PHM-7 version (same design, less high-tech carbon) would cost about 1700 euros if I would get it in JP.
Then again, 1700 euros would get me a lot of other stuff and I've already got 5 bikes.

• I think it's an awesome bike, but if I saw someone riding it as a road bike, I'd cut their face off and dump the body outside Chicken Cottage

• i would help you.

• mmm chicken cottage

That looks to be very very close to a Banchi Concept.

Even the indentation down the side of the fork.

such hostility!
;)

I wouldn't mind if they made a road-version, though. I just love the design.

I don't know if there's a convenient Chicken Cottage in Tokyo, but...

that fork is the same as the one i had with my condor pista eom frameset uh but in black

• I've seen one of those Merckx Pista frames in a shop in Oakland.

I can see the similarities with a Concept, but the seat-tube doesn't have the cutout like on the Bianchi, which is one of the more obvious differences. The headtube angle is around one degree off - the Bianchi is 74-75, depending on frame size, the Merckx is 74-73 (as in, it's steeper on the smaller frame sizes). I also think it's a lot more of a 'sloping' geometry, as opposed to the Bianchi's more traditional track geo.

Also, the Merckx is 7000 aluminium, whereas the Bianchi is 7005.

Yes, I really should get out more.

Good point about the geometry, I failed to notice the back wheel being held a few inches off the ground, when that wheel is down and the thing is level it certainly will reveal a more sloping top tube.

I will down grade my obsevations to 'look's a bit like the . . . ' ;P

Very nice bike by the way, anyone know how much the frame/fork would set you back ?

• Not sure if any of these three have been posted before:

• that I.F is the foxtons mini of track bikes (or is that the laahndaan langster?)

• Roberto £€$

This honestly looks like my old bedroom. Right down to the bed and sheet colour.

Nice rimzzzz Roberto.

• brown sheets and admiring each others rims?

Well, during the 6 days of Ghent, I walked by the here often mentionned 'Plum' bikeshop and there was one in the shop window for 1800 euros, not just the frameset but it was buit up. I think it was built up with a miche groupo and wheelset (as it is shown on the Eddy Merckx website).

By the way, the Ghent 6 days event is really worth checking out... That track is so short and steep so it's very spectacular. Of course for you Brits this year would have been less interesting as Wiggins/Cavendish (especially the latter) weren't doing so well (even though they were the best paid couple there...).
