  • mmm... could spray/powder coat the forks white ? (see group buy)
Nice frame! - all proper bikes have blokes name on them.. ahem.
p.s. - I have a cheapo hub built on a black open sport you can have for a fiver / some crack..

  • just rattlecan the forks white until you get money/time to do something else

  • @Ed, I was trying to be funny/topical (US elections). Obviously failed. I appreciate all comments, and like provenrad's idea of just spraying the forks white. I may take you up on the cheapo wheel also. Just give me a couple of days to hunt down some crack.

  • If your are going to part with the fork I would buy it, I need a straighter one for my raleigh :)

  • Just buy a complete bike off ebay, it's cheaper.. oops too late ;)

  • buy Miah's bike for £200, transfer the parts then sell the frame/forks here for like £70.
    everyones a winner baby! http://www.londonfgss.com/discussion/3526/fuji-4-sale/#Item_1

  • Hey Andy,
I have some cranks and Rings Campag Xenon I think and a Miche Cog, as well as a very nice Shimano M600/ Nitto Stem, a Shimano M600 Brake lever like new and a matching rear brake or another front brake. Also have a selection of BB's drop me a mail as I could save you a fortune.

  • andy you could save on wheels by getting them from america, not quite as good as your hubs listed, but if you wanna save a bit

  • +1 to all of the 'keep the colour' comments... That blue is sweet, sell Hael your yellow forks, look for some chrome ones n the bay... Get Miah's bike, use the parts from it (those wheels are worth the investment). Maybe sell the frame on the bay (I bet you'd get a hundred for it)

Reckon you could get a complete bike for well under £400 after you'd sold bits you don't need.

  • Chains are overrated, just use a shoelace.

  • Same situation not as expensive though yet, i think. need a wheelset cranks and ring and bb, and seat bolt and then I'm away, oh got to take back the caliper to condor too long, still need a deep drop though. I guess I would need a chain, although I do have a fat shoe lace somewhere, or maybe an elastic band

  • look in the lets trade section, i've got some crap parts that will do the job, but don't look pretty. chopped bars, brakes, crankset

  • andy did you buy that frame? I really really hope you did because I was painfully close to bankrupting myself by buying it. (i have all black components with a yellow back wheel/silver front wheel and yellow grips/seat. the yellow forks actually enticed me).

  • by the way:

    frame: £130
CXP 33 laced to phil wood front wheel: £83
yellow deep v laced to phil wood: £125
    saddle: £45ish
    cranks/chainring/bb: £70
    rear cog: £17
    misc black components: £55
    pedals/straps etc: £30
    brakage: £30

    total: £585

I thought it was much worse actually... Chuffed with the cheapness of the wheels versus their quality :) god bless ebay!

  • I was thinking for a winter fixed project, but I calculated and couldn't believe the price- around £800 I'm thinking to get the full bianchi pista for £482 and change that ugly steam (what do you think?).
    I wrote down this prices:

Surly Steamroller €459 £346, or some second hand frame, don't know yet
Pair of Deep V's laced to Miche/Surly/whatever hubs €240 £180
    Tyres - €40 £30
    Miche Crank + pedals + Chainring - €110 £83
    bb - €20 £25
    Saddle + seatpost - €35 £25
    Stem Nitto bar+stem €80 £60
    Chain + cog €40 £30
Shipping cost: €30+, £20+ (as we haven't got any trackbike store in whole country(im not from uk), nobody(in a bike shops) knows what a fixed hub is)

  • the frame looks quality, but not cheap. i got a nice diamant frame for £5 on ebay. Just put your head down and scout out some parts that look dodgy but are nice inside :-) Besides i had a really decent build for £400 with sugino cranks, cheap but good wheelset and nitto drops (+ a78 viner road frame - bad paint but great frame). Your maybe wanting something too showy (wheels + paint) for your budget?

steamroller frame for that much?? you can get a keirin frame with that money! also, if you're not from the UK, why buy from the UK since the pound is strong now you'll have much more luck buying from somewhere else (i.e. US).

Tom, do you live in Cambridge?

  • I really like that frame and there's a nice history too it. Seems nowadays it's far too easy to cover up the old patina and whack a one colour paint job over it. You have to see past it. Once that frame has some nice chrome parts it will be stunning. Only you can decide so go with your gut feelings mate and don't be too precious.

I putted gbp in prices just that it'll be easier for you to read (I'm from Slovenia - have euros). I'll probably order from germany. I think that shipping cost and taxes would be extremely high if I'd order from usa.

What do you think about bianchi pista (£482)? Is that cheap or expencive, I'll probably replace stem and rims in a first week.

  • normally you should be able to get a bianchi pista for quite a lot cheaper than that...

    http://www.evanscycles.com/product.jsp?style=87043

  • Just to update, I bought this off ebay last night, so Roberto's bike is still available (ed, asm)

I'm not going to change the colour (for now), but I am going to get deep V's. Can't help it, I just love em. The quest for the other cheap components now begins. Hopefully I'll have it done up for the Australia day ride.

Cheers for everyone's input. I'll be sure to correct them the next time someone says this forum is full of c**ts :)

  • That's a beautiful looking frame Andy. Nice one.

  • andyf I'll be sure to correct them the next time someone says this forum is full of c**ts :)

There's only a few of us, we're just louder than everyone else :)

Now shuddup and build that thing!

  • dare you tell us how much you paid? was it less than £189? ARGHHH I HAVE NO MONEY
