I don't understand what you mean by

Ratboy if i flip the wheel round the axle is too far to one side so i cant fit the wheel properly without it being out of line with the rest of the bike

Could you please draw a picture or take a photo or something, your terminology seems to be mixed up a bit which makes it difficult to understand what you are referring to. Good luck.
