you can ask arup on here he'll build you wheels a tenner each. he can help you source spokes as well, which of course you'll have to pay for cost and shipping.

Oi! Join the queue for Arup...he's not taking any more builds for some weeks I think.
I need some built by the end of January so if you find anyone reliable please post. :)

im getting my front hub (along with other bits, and my frame) powdercoated this week, which means next week i can start building. last night i talked with andy, and he said they had the spokes and all the bits needed to build then and there; i say, toss in your rims for this weeks powdercoating, then we can both get our wheels built next week - you might have to build them yourself, but its a good skill to have, i assume to some degree fulfilling AND you can save some money.

My baby has just arrived 2 weeks early so it's madness here. I've almost finished my christmas wheel orders and will need a few weeks to get used to the baby as it's my first one, but then will be building again at the end of the month. Four or five in the queue at the last count.

+1 to carlos - try build it yourself.
it's not that hard and with 28 spokes each wheel u're saving a substantial amount of work already.

I posted up back in the old days here saying I can build wheels for beer. (well, wine preferably)
I've done mtb, bmx and road wheels, all of which have been rock solid.
the only thing you have to do is deliver and collect from bloody tootin innit

Congrats Arup!
Thanks RPM - sounds good! I'll whisper you when ready.
Carlos - not ready for powdercoating yet, it won't make it any cheaper either as we'll be getting different colours.

Congratulations Arup, you'd better get some matchsticks for your eyelids, wheelbuilding on lack of sleep could be hazardous ;)
Enjoy the little nipper, they don't stay that small for long - you'll soon have biceps on your biceps!

vic - true (on the cost of powdercoating tip), but im getting two different colors done anyways, so i was just saying just get it done (with whatever color youd like) then, in a weeks time, you can be building your wheels and saving money by not paying someone else to do it...

Cheers guys.

• #22
how hard is a wheel build anyway? any specific tools needed?
-
• #23
Check out Arup's website - http://www.yogarup.com/wheels/method.php
All you need is a Spokey / spoke key.
Congrats Arup! -

I think any idiot can build a wheel (never tired myself though) but building it strong and properly tensioned to last may take a bit more experience.

vic, if you bring them down on a sunday i'll help you out then and there
So, when I've finally got my shit together and get my rims coated and my hubs have arrived, I will be needing a wheelbuilder sometme in February (estimated date for me getting organised, subject to change) - can anybody help please? As my LBS ends up costing a bit (usually upwards of £25 per wheel), I thought I would ask here first to see if anyone fancies earning themselves an amount much less than £50 and/or beers.
I have a set of high flange (diameter 60mm) Miche Primato 28h to be laced to 650c Deep Vs - no fancy patterns needed Any takers?
