• I'm currently crashing in New Cross, and waiting for my friend to move up mid-Jan so we can get a place together. Anyone interested in getting a house share with us, or knows of a place with two rooms going spare please let me know.

I've loved living east, but happy to try somewhere else for my 5th year in London. Cheers.

• RPM
Vinz How do two people live in a studio. Do you not get on each other's nerves?

you're supposed to get in each other's pants..

she's your girlfriend... do we have to spell it out?
That aside, they do have a lot of clothes. When me and my better half had a tiny flat I found we were constantly tripping over [her] clutter. I wouldn't share in a studio. If it is two people renting together in london you won't have a problem at all finding a place.

If your other half isn't into cycling then get near a tube. Look for a place where there are transport backups, i.e. multiple tubes for when one stops running. This was why I used to like West Hapstead, tonnes of transport.

Another place to look which is really nice is "Queens Park" - This is really nice.

• Vinz Just wanted to say a big thanks to everyone. I have come to the conclusion that you get more for your money in the south, but it lacks a certain Je ne sais quoi The north has that certain something but you have to be willing to pay.

Trust me, there is nothing special about north london. Every crappy area in London has it's nice bit tacked on the side. there are nice pockets all over town, north, south, east or west. Prices are higher in the north because the transport is generally better. Anywhere along green lanes was, IMO, a bit dire. Tower hamlets was expensive (tax wise) i guess because it's only you paying any sort of council tax. However, there are plenty of places to go and see/do interesting stuff. Covent garden was really noisy and we had a tiny flat so best i don't comment. That was a bad year! Many of my friends really rate West Hampstead and i can sort of see why, it's ok. That wasn't very helpful really. Put a pin in a map, chances are it'll be ok. Even Camberwell has it's good days. ;)

• +1, specially about transport. Whilst there is fuck all tube in the south, the overground is pretty good (and cheap), and buses for everywhere else.

• agree about transport, but disagree about green lanes - there's some fantastic places along that road, if you didn't appreciate them then you're missing out!

There was a decent pub or two, plenty of places to buy £1 san miguel and the like and plenty of veg shops but i hated the traffic. I stayed for a couple of years but had enough in the end.
it wasn't very cheap either.

• hippy We fuck so it's not really an issue :P
(no, it's not murtle it's my gf)

you're such a gentlemen!

• Fucking oath mate! Those are almost the same words your mum used..
St. Peters Golden Ale..

• wrongest post of the year!!

• blows kiss

• Try not to live out side zone 2 if possible, as long as you live in zone 2 most things will be close by even if you have to cross London.

West London is nice but a bit pricey plus the west part of central London is Kensington e.t.c which is nice but here is bugger all there apart from lots of rich people so you will have to travel through that area to get anywhere central.

People go on about this area is bad for crime e.t.c. Inside zone 2 most areas are not that bad (with one or two exceptions) and most so called "good" areas can be just as dodgy. Riding a bike in general keeps you safer than taking the night bus, just keep on riding.

Live with people if you are moving on your own. Get a one bed flat if it is you and the girlfriend. 700 between you should get you a flat in s.e or south London within zone 2. For reference I live just inside zone 3 (nearly zone 4) s.e and when I commute to work (so riding slowish) it takes me 50 min to Euston, other places, bricklane 30 - 40 min
city 40 min Hyde park 55 min 60 min. So even from my far out position I can make it anywhere in central London in less than an hour with out having to ride hard so if you are in zone two you will have it easy.

I live s.e because of my girlfriends work, but I don't find that there is much locally that interests me this is a hassel. If you are more towards Brixton you are o.k but full on s.e is locally a bit dull, but I do live a fair way out.

Live wherever. There are so many places to rent in London you can just move in 6 months if you do no like the area.

Try to live the side of London which the area of central London you will need to get too the most is.

• Hey everyone, I will be getting married this August and moving to London along with my bike. Im not entirely sure where we will be living, but I know we are looking into Vauxhall / Camberwell, and some other spots. Looking forward to actually living in a ridable city without needing a car, and having people to ride with!

• Living south of the river is a good plan, moving in August is also a good plan.

welcome when the time comes

• South of the river? Yuck.
Not wishing to start a turf war but Hackney/Bethnal Green/Lower Clapton/Stoke Newington.

• turf war!!!!
throws handful of astroturf at you

• ..are great if you want to be beaten half to death and have your bike stolen from under you.

• Ooh... you could say the same about anywhere... I'm not a fan of south London, but this city can be expensive/dodgy anywhere you go. I live east, just outside the edge of Bow and we pay £1100 a month between four (two couples) for a huge, new flat (900sq ft), 4-6 miles from central London, twenty mins on a bike.

If you're renting, get it sorted in advance - August is the beginning of student time, so it gets busy in the rental market...

Congrats on getting married...

• another damn yank, i'm in the same boat, coming form denver (redwings suck), and will be on the right side of the river. you want to live east, trust me.

• He speaks da troot...

• bigben Hackney/Bethnal Green/Lower Clapton/Stoke Newington.

that's all the shiteholes out the way then

• also keep your fingers away from hippys mouth, and do not anger RPM, he will kill you. straight up.

• hackney/tower hamlets/lambeth/southwark are the crime/gang boroughs of london, there are a few oases in these but having lived in 2 of those boroughs i wouldn't want to move back

• RPM
bigben Hackney/Bethnal Green/Lower Clapton/Stoke Newington.

trust me all the above will be like straight out of the ghetto of detroit

plus everyone wears the same sunglasses

• ok he is from Detroit, aka Americas shit hole, he can handle hackney/ dalston.
