Don't let me buy a dog!

  • Seriously thinking of buying this:
    Hyper-critical opinions please?

obviously, i'll be adding a brake - i like life.

    cheers!

  • what frame is that?

  • that's the trouble - i don't know much about it and i'm wary of the new powdercoat. it's steel, lugged and a road frame but that's all i know.

  • i am not really keen to be honest, cant put my finger on a reason why though. i don't like the gap ( sorry scot it looks good on your bike though; ) and the lugs are nothing special often when you get a steel frame you get at least a shape on the lugs. : )

  • that gap is awesome! here's some more:

  • That looks like a fork for 27" wheels, which means that you're going to need the mother of all brakes to give enough reach.

Apart from that, it looks very nice. Beautiful plumage.

  • i'd be less worried about the gap and more concerned about the horrible rake, the wheelbase looks massive, it would be like steering a boat

  • it looks like a touring frame, very similar to my old dawes. they are super comfy to ride, but beware due to low BB, you sometimes get pedal strike going round corners. also, it will be a pain trying to find a super long reach brake caliper ;)

  • I guess it all depends on how much it costs...

could be a nice winter bike though,

  • I've replaced 27" wheel &forks to take a 700c wheel, but the gap is nowhere as big as it is on your frame. I would measure and check you can get a brake with enough drop/reach before handing over your readies. Too much wheel clearance for my liking.

  • scott dun got broked a bmx caliper should work fine...non?
good to see somene thinking outside square, i was thinking about this y'day ;) , for badtmy's polo bike!

  • scott dun got broked i ain't just a pretty face :D...:)

  • ok, i'll paraphrase lke the sun does!!

  • that's seriously rakey.

  • imo the frame looks pretty cheap (pressed dropouts with mudguard eyelets in one), plain lugs. Although that doesn't mean its bad. I know ppl who've ridden frames like that for years. It probably won't be light either but then that doesn't bother many ppl. But from the photos the powdercoat looks good. Other than that it seems fairly nice. Clean build. Depends on the price I guess.

  • is this going to be your first fix?
as tallsam said really depends on the price. i seriously won't be paying much for an unknown frame that looks like this.

and as glow said it's wheelbase is huge, the angles are way too slack. it's so slack i even suspect it's a frame from a roadster (sounds heavy). might not be a lot of fun riding it, though comfortable for sure.

another thing to look out for is that the cranks have a 110BCD.

  • Hi I have a frame that is lot like this, it's a black BSA Sport (Birmingham Small Arms) of similar geometry from the eighties, that I am thinking of selling if that's of interest to you or anyone else on here... maybe i'll stick it up in the for sale section here if there is one.

It was a road bike that my dad bought new back in 1985, rode maybe twice, and then put in the shed until this Summer. It's immaculate. I'm either gonna sell just the frame and forks or the whole bike, which is a pretty reasonable build i think:

  • ha RPM you're quick to find that on ebay. i just saw it too. those guys selling this... all their bikes on there are crap!

200quid's alright, but it's in the states shipping it over with customs on your back is just totally not worth it.

  • $400?? Plus shipping from the US - for something that weighs around the same as a number 26 bus?

Walk away and mark this date in your diary as 'The day I dodged a bullet'. Plus, anyone that describes that as:

a real FIXED GEAR TRACK Bike

    ...wants shooting.

RPM spaketh the truth, JHD... he is wise to warn you of the pitfalls of buying such a contraption.

  • hmm, i don't know yet, i only decided to sell it yesterday. i measured it months back- i think it was 54cm from BB centre to top of seatpost. The frame, BB, fork, stem, crankset and chainringare original, everything else brand new. i'd certainly like to cover the cost of a new frame. I'll have a think.

  • i thought as much. Good ebay skills, RPM!

all that sherry over christmas must've got to me. i've just been back on and looked at what else they're selling and it has all become clearer than evAr!

it won't be my first. had a few fixies over the years but still being the tecnophobe that i am, i only just realised there's other people into them and there's places like this. starting to feel like riding something a bit nicer than all the other bikes i've had. (riding a cough and looks at the floor langster cough because i don't have to worry about it. at all.)

i've shipped various cruisers and lowriders from the USA over the years and it's been hit or miss whether i get stung for VAT by the customs man.

    cheers all!

  • ...what's this got to do with dogs?

  • Don't they come from Antwerp?

  • Dogs come from Antwerp? What? Who? What's going on?

    It's all too much.
