I'd say be careful with clearance, smallest 27" tyres I could find were 1 1/4" Gators, they're HUGE...
27" wheels rock! :) -

27" wheels rock! :)Just what I was going to say. It does look a bit funny but not that out of proportion. I think you have been looking at it too much instead of riding it and have made a big issue out of a little issue. I think you may just have to except your height and become one with it. End of counseling session that will be £50 please.

I think you may be right, the frame is of un-known age, there is loads of clearance though, I have 700c x 28 boots on it and mudguards would be no problem at all, I can probably get my fat fingers between the tyre/frame gaps. I do wonder if it was designed for 27" rims hence my thoughts on building a pair up for it.

It's a real pain finding decent tyres and rims for 27" wheels and they're only a bit bigger so won't look that different. I'd say that you should rejoice in the fact that tall people are seen as more attractive and better leaders and accept the fact that your bike looks a bit weird. Here are my two, so at least you're not alone:

What drop brake are you running on the front? if it fit 700c then it's probably designed for it.
I may be wrong. My mercian is about 5m off running a modern 39-49 brake. Annoying but not so much of a problem. the clearence in the back of your frame looks about right for 700c, your axle i pushed all the way back into the dropout.

My front brake is a tektro long drop job, the shimano 105 I had on hit equal amounts of rim and tyre wall in its lowest position. The tektro is almost as low as it will go.

I had the same problem, then when I changed the brake blocks the reach wasn't long enough (?!) so had to file the slots out some more...
Agree with dogsballs, I picked up the Aero Jalcos... They're really nice rims... Once my Mercian's fixed up the 27"s are goin' on that, gonna chrome paste the fuck out of 'em first tho'! Bling! :D -

Me too. They also have a 1 1/8'' too. They do some 27" Jalco rims, don't know if they're any good. -

I'd stick with what you've got. 700's will always be easier to get tyres for and a fair range at that
This is my Harry Hall which I built with 700c rims, due to it being so stupidly big (25" frame) the wheels IMHO look small. Does anyone think it would be worth building up 27" wheels which are that tiny bit bigger, would they make it look any more proportioned or would you say its not worth the grief?
