anyone, answer this? i got the exact same Q
i assume a standard 107mm shimano UN72 or UN54 should do?

This has come up before.
Will at Hubjub reckons the 107 JIS doesn't give 42mm.
A mate of mine built his with a 107 JIS and it's fine.
Ask Spacycles. They sell loads of Stronglight.

I've been running the ST-1000 cranks with 126mm dropouts with a stronglight 107mm bottom bracket which gives a pretty good chainline (±1mm). No problems for the last 4 months.
Only £12 from Spa cycles.

hahaa, that spa one looks like an 111mm iso campag centaur BB. i just forgot, it will be running goldtec hub so need a 45mm chainline. mmmmm.

for me, I got a sugino 103mm BB for the stronglight crank, and it's spot on (I tried a UN54 107mm and it was way out)

you can get them from outspoken cycles £19.99

dogsballs: for a 45mm chainline you probably want a 107mm then, i have UN 54 at home i'm not using if you want it
-

sugino is ISO?? erm, i might go for the 110mm JIS
-
• #10
so you saying that the 107mm pushed it too far out? cool, i'll grab it off you. whisper me :). otherwise i'm halfway through a wiggle order and will chuck it on that.

yeah man, i have 42mm line hub, so the 103 is spot on for that, so the 107 should give you a near perfect line
-
• #12
My theory is that the Stronglight shares the 44mm chainline of fellow Frenchies Mavic (ie on the Ellipse).
Hence the 103 works for 42mm, and the 107 gives correct chainline on 44mm.

i use goldtec hub, 110 shimano bb, strongshite cranks.
it'll work.

I'm running Stronglight cranks and have a Shimano UN72 bottom bracket installed. If you hunt around on t'internet you should be able to find one of these or the UN54 in the right axle length. Parkers and Ribble seem to have quite a lot of options.

Remember that 110 and 107 Shimano BBs have the same amount of spindle out on the drive side. The extra 3mm is all on the non drive side. I have no idea why this is the case, but it is.

man that's weird as momentum. i got the UN54 107mm off mercianary. i had a look at his bike and it is a similar frame, so should work. now to get the stupid dust cap off the drive side, which is demolished and seized in, doh!!

This is pissing me off. Im trying to setup a 126mm frame with some old ST cranks. using a 110mm phil bb and cranks are still hitting the stays. Why is everything so complicated?

I've got some stronglight Speedlights (track version) that are giving me gref as well,
I've tried a 103 ISO and JIS BB and i still get a 45ish chainline with the shit cranked down TIGHT.or am i just being retarded and putting the BB the wrong way round (is that possible?)

Hi everyone - great forum. I'm sure this question has come up before but I could really do with some advice.
I've been collecting parts to build up a bike. I have a nice 531 comp frame with 130 mm rear dropouts. My wheels are Mavic rims on Formula with a surly cog. I have Stronglight St-1000 cranks with a 49t chainring and a Sugino 103 mm bb, as recommended by Outspoken where I got them.
I put it all together and...the chainring arms clip the chainstay, and this is with the rear drops tightened down onto the 120 mm hub. So, I guess I have to get a longer bb, right? But a 107 mm bb will throw my chainline out by 2mm, and I will still only have 2 mm clearance between the chainring arms and the frame.
I wish now I had invested in a 130 mm hub and got a longer bb to start with, but what is my best solution now, given that I must keep my wheelset, cranks, chainring etc? Should I look for a different frame or should I just get a 107 mm bb and live with a chainline which is 2 mm out? I would put a spacer behind the cog but I really don't think there's room on the thread - or would a different cog allow for more adjustment?
Help, please!

...the chainring arms clip the chainstay
Sorry, I mean the crank arms clip the chainstay
I've got a pair of Stronglight ST-1000 track cranks. and will be running them on a 80's mercian frame with 68mm BB and 126mm rear dropouts. I know the BB has to be JIS Tapered. Anyone else have this kinda of setup? if so, what BB are you running?
I've seen the REAL BB on eBay
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=290163029883&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=019
It looks good as it allows some chainline tweaking.
