  • Hi all, I am trying to get a fixed bike but after visiting Brick Lane bikes I got quite scared with prices ... I would love to get it quite customized as well but to begin with I would go quite easy with money. Do you have any tips where i better look for frames, components, re-spraying etc ... ?

    Thank you!

  • hi, do a search on the forum all the info you need is there

  • ebay ebay ebay.
my advice would be to think about building one yourself, it'll let you get to know how you put bikes together and you'll be able to customize it exactly how you want. takes a little longer becasue its not straight of the shelf but its well worth it. of the shelf ones usually arn't worth it.
if you wanna do it on the cheap you could just get a road frame and convert it. they're cheap. i was riding a Raliegh with reynolds 531 tubing and it only cost me 20squid for the frame.
as for spraying i've always gone to armotex cause they charge £40 for a matt colour and something like £55/60 for anything with a laquor. but check the frame sprayers thread for help on that one.
london bike shops will charge you top dorra for anything you buy so before being tempted just to buy something give ebay a quick once over.
    hopes thats some help.

  • gumtree has cheapo conversions

  • Try ebay gumtree etc. Don't bother respraying unless you end up with a really nice frame.

fuji track compleat bike is worth a look at 300 ish. Search the forum find plenty of info
BLB is a bike shop that seem to beable to do anything for you but they are pricey.

Building a bike, even a convention can end up expensive because of mistakes and greed and tools (if you don't have them).. IT is worth while but not always cheaper than an bike like the fiji.

Read read read and make an informed choice. come to an event or polo or something and speak to people. Research.

  • If you decide to go with BLB, don't forget to take the lube for when they bend you over and stick it in you.

Alternatively, take someone who knows their stuff with you so you don't end up doing a WW.

  • my advice would be to buy a cheapo conversion (from someone's home - ie hopefully not stolen!) - then
you're set to have fun & learn the ropes of riding it, building it up and tinkering with it.
After a year or two of that you'll know a lot more about what you really want and how to
do your own thing with it if you then feel spending that spending loadsa moola on a showboat is really necessary.

  • Hey, that's really helpful everyone .. thanks a lot!! Btw, what's polo or were take place these events?

  • check polo thread. link at top.

polo=bike polo. Brick Lane. come on down.

  • i'll be selling this for ~£150 in a couple weeks. 55cm geoff butler track frame in 531. let me know if interested.

  • man, that's a bendy frame

  • Yep, that's look banded!! When are these events taking place? Still confused .. polo ..

  • fixed in case u were serious, that photo was taken with a fisheye lense. :)

Seriously dude, click search, next to categories at the top. type "first fixie" or "first fixed wheel" or whatever and you will get a heap of information. Type polo in and the same will happen. It'll save everyone a lot of time :)

  • Hi Fixed,

The whole fixed gear thing is over really, you kinda missed it. Try customising a chopper or shopper....

  • Get a cinelli vigorelli and try to put gears on it.

  • it's ALL about these now:

  • What the fuck is that!?! I want one.

  • oh I already have 3, you can come by and ride one, but the trick to riding them is you have to remain completely expressionless or it will buck you off.

  • that's true.
there's a camera in the stem connected to the latest AI technology with a face recognition system.

the default setting is impassive. break into a grin, or show any fear and it'll put you in the road before you can say Rumplestilstskin
