Should be 10 minutes or so - test a little on a hidden area.
The surface should be ever so slightly rough, like a very fine pitting, this is what will help the paint (preferably enamel/car spray aerosol) mechanically lock onto the surface.
. . . or go to work with some medium grit sand paper (240 grit will do it).
