  • What are the hardest climbs in the city? I only really know North and central, but my least favourite ball-breakers must be Caledonian Road up from Kings X
    Stroud Green Road/Crouch Hill
    Muswell Hill

  • worst ones i can think of are crystal palace and norwood junction

  • highgate hill is a bit bad....

"Tha wants to come up north lad."

I used to do a paper round on my bike around Blackburn, Lancs. That's nothing but hills.

Being a yorkshire lad (SHAME) I'd be inclined to agree. A hill isn't a real hill unless you die half way up it.

  • theres one round the back of forest hill which i am sure is seriously steep i'll try and find out what its called

  • Vanbourgh hill nr Greenwich

  • Highgate hill is a bit bad....

    Oh yeah! Forgot about Highgate.

    Nasty.

  • Ratboy worst ones i can think of are crystal palace and norwood junction

yeh Westwood hill going up to Crystal Palace and Crown Point/Knights Hill, I have to do both of them to get to my folks place, why did they have to move? bastards..

  • I'd second Crystal Palace hill. The Forest Hill one isn't too much fun either coming from the Lewisham side.

  • Did Fitzjohn's Avenue from Swiss Cottage to Hampstead the other day, on a 48:16 gearing - that was a bastard. I sounded like Ricky Hatton sparring with every pedal stroke. Got to the top only to find I only should have gone halfway.

I'm getting a new gear ratio this week.

  • fitzjohn's ave up from swiss cottage to hampstead. totally not where i live or go regularly but have been up it a few times and it's a killer. it's a pretty straight but a bend near the top. I always forget that the bend isn;t the top f the climb and have to keep on powering for a that bit longer. good fun though

  • Not sure about South, but [ame=http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/91242]here's[/ame

]here's[/ame] some of the best/worst the North has to offer. (Route goes up some and down some)

  • Middlesbrough's most pleasant council estates?**

you were the only person in the alleycat to go that way :p

    Highgate West and East.
Cressida Av, in Archway, possibly steepest but only a few blocks.

  • Vanbourgh hill nr Greenwich

+1 - short and sharp up to my gf's block of flats!

anyone know what telegraph hill's like??

  • if you want to go for steepness, instead of going up pentonville road come down kings cross road and then go left up great percy st and sprint it all the way up to amwell st. if you don't sprint there's no way to make it on 46 17 gearing. short but sweet.

  • I don't think Great Percy Street is as steep as Swain's Lane top section. It's a nice work out though.

What is this about Caledonian road in the OP? Is there a hill there?

  • Sano Did Fitzjohn's Avenue from Swiss Cottage to Hampstead the other day, on a 48:16 gearing - that was a bastard. I sounded like Ricky Hatton sparring with every pedal stroke. Got to the top only to find I only should have gone halfway.

balls you posted just before me.... I ride on a 49:16 and it;s teh only hill in london i;ve climbed which made me appreciate how flat the rest of london is and glad that i don;t have to go that way often.

  • East Heath Road is fun in either direction :P

  • Cale Road isn't as steep as some others, but it seems to drag on and on.

But maybe that's just cause it used to be on my route home

  • There's one like that in Richmond park - looks flat until you're actually riding up it.

Then round the other side of the park is that short steep bitch of an incline which nearly killed me in the London Duathlon

  • +1 most routes up to Hampstead
Also some streets around Pepys Road in sarf London.

Caledonian Rd is really not that bad.
