hey sonic,
not sure where you're getting the frame done but for powdercoating my mate recommended me this place http://www.aprobinsonpowdercoatings.co.uk/
its in farlington and supposed to be okay. -

dont listen to the hype those plastic double gate clips you have are much better than the metal mks ones, they just dont look as good
-

good job sonicboom, always like to see an old pug converted. add to your list of small improvements some single chainring bolts so you can get rid of that unnecessary chainring. will massively improve aesthetics. nice one tho.

please, nylon straps better than leather, who are we kidding!?
-
• #31
we prefer nylon straps on the rollapaluza rig, they last longer and don't stretch loose after you've already strapped someone in....this may go against authenticity but it's based on over 2000 roller racer changes this year.

done!

Interesting technique - Theo Bos uses a pair of pliers to tighten his toe straps. -
• #34
anyone know what those grips are on SonicBoom's bike?
-
• #35
yo.
To get the safety lever off you need to disassemble the whole brake. There is a key screw in the middle somewhere. I just had to do the same thing so It can be done, you just have to dismantle and rebuild it.

Interesting technique - Theo Bos uses a pair of pliers to tighten his toe straps.i thought they were your legs, then realised the weren't big enough :p

Just get these track clipless pedals you need someone to undo them for you plus you can fit toe clips on top as well.
-
• #38
the grips are odyssey gedda 2 bmx grips from ebay. i just cut the guard bit off
-

the first time I saw a clipless pedal....I was about 11....it had some sort of sliding lock......you put your foot in place, then pushed a metal slide in from the side of the pedal which locked into place....you couldn't unclip without stopping and pulling the slide back out.....guessing they had no float either.

Reminds me.. Keywin do something like that for the track version of their clipless pedals.
There's a little lever thingie or slide or something that you can use to lock the cleat in.
I'm not sure if it's standard or a mod but one of the trackies I knew in Melbourne ran them. -

You're still slower than him.
-
• #43
I've never raced him so that's never been proved :P
-
• #44
why doesnt he use clipless on the track?
-
• #45
danger joel why doesnt he use clipless on the track?
He does. SPD-R and a strap. Double straps here but he races single strap now I think.
-
• #46
is that incase he comes out the clips or is it in the rule book? also, he seems to be wearing clips in the photo?
-
• #47
The rules don't spec. clips, straps, clipless as far as I know.. in fact I wonder if they'd let you ride with flats? I mean, not seriously of course, just wondering if there are rules for pedals.
Here's a few options.. the most popular for sprinters when I left Oz was SPD-R (the old all-metal ones) plus a strap.
Now SPD-SL are becoming more popular as a replacement for SPD-R (SPD-SL is much easier to find I think)Here's SPD-R with strap:
SPD-SL with double:
Just clip with double (used by a French lass - Virginie Cueff):

Oh, I forgot, 42.
That should do it. -

brain the size of a planet and they ask me about clips and straps....
I'm tempted by a pair of these. Also MKS metal clips seem to be pretty standard, cheap and decent.
Probably worth checking your lbs for stuff like this though, clips and straps arent worth paying the postage on.
