    // their description //

    Here we have Barry Witcomb and a new member of the Witcomb owner's club, Michael. The bicycle is a Witcomb fixed-wheel frame custom made for Michael.

    Fixed wheel frames differ slightly from their track frame cousins which are designed for use in a velodrome. Track frames have tighter angles and clearances to help with overall aerodynamics and energy transfer from the rear of the frame to front wheel. While this makes them more energy efficient on a smooth velodrome surface, it loses a lot of energy and increases the effect of road-vibration.

    With a fixed-wheel frame we include a more 'road-bike' geometry, with wider clearances between tubes and wheels and less aggressive angles. Where on a track these would create a drag effect, on a road surface they iron out the road vibration and cornering requirements allowing the bike to travel at a more efficient and comfortable speed.

    Michael has finished his bike in Campag Record components and a deep section set of Mavic Wheels. He is also looking to become a member of the Witcomb Cycle club as we get ready for the 2008 season.
