As Hippy points out that was Bruce Bursford's bike - he's Tony Dafoney's role model I reckon.

"This is the bike built by race car manufacturer Lola for former grasstrack specialist Bruce Bursford, who pedaled it on rollers at what would have been 207.9mph, had the wheels been travelling on an actual road."
What a massive pile of wank. They should add "in a vacuum" to the end of that statement. Put a big enough gear on and free enough bearings and you can go whatever 'speed' you want when you're stationary.

He made other equally wanky claims. A self publicist and attention seeker. And a tub of lard to boot!

Yeah, he and other tubs of lard will probably kick your arse on a bike too. It's not all about Pantani builds.

Except there is no 5 mile time trial record to beat. He also claimed he'd been French National Pursuit champion amongst many other claims that he couldn't back up with real evidence. And I agree it's not all about Pantani builds but for someone who claimed to be a world class cyclist he wasn't in the shape you'd expect.

The driver of the lorry, a 35-year-old man from Toftwood near Dereham, was uninjured.*Thanks for the insight, Auntie! Who'd have thought that, in a collision between a massive truck and a cyclist, the driver might have made it through unscathed?

that's always the way things like that are reported, the angle is not to accuse the driver of anything.
so the classic:
"there were delays on the busy B666 today when the road had to be closed after a fatal accident. A cyclist collided with a lorry travelling northbound, the lorry driver is said to be shocked but unhurt"
is never gonna be:
"A lorry driver faces jail today after killing a cyclist he ran into with his HGV on the busy B666. If convicted of causing death by dangerous driving he faces a maximum term of 10 years"

That's because, chances are, the driver will get away with it!

yep, a driver is a responsible, law abiding, contributor to society.
a cyclist is outside the law, on the fringes of society and a threat to everything decent people have strived for.
and sometimes, in the depths of darkest Tooting..a man has to run into the middle of the road and shout "CUNT !"
