Not yet got a leather saddle, but used to use the old Nikwax/hairdryer combo on hiking boots. It works so well. Also, when rubbing wax in use your warm fingers rather than a rag, it just helps keep the wax warm while you work it into the leather.
Once managed to work so much nikwax into my boots that a stroll through some moorland heather didn't even scuff them.
