  • ThisIsRob (RJM) talking of trendynes getting out of hand

    http://www.velospace.org/node/6665

I hadn't seen that before. I've never felt sorry for a langster before, but I actually feel bad for it. It's like a dog that the owner cuts it's tail and ears off when it's a puppy... Oh man!

    Have u injured yourself?
In my early days of fixed gear, attempting a Jamaican skid got me a broken collar bone, fractured skull and a month off work

I might try that. I've not seen This Morning in ages.

  • winston my great grandad did...

it's an interesting phenomenon....but like all trends it has a time limit, plenty of people on here claim they're not into it because of it's current high coolometer rating....I can remember saying I'll be a punk forever... how long 'til ebay prices come back down as people move on to the next thing?

Hopefully there will still be a decent amount of human fixed wheel conversions after the exodus.

We have a long way to go before the "trend" dies. On top of that, hopefully it will be like skateboarding and slowly just become a thing that people do, and not a "dying trend that was stupid and dangerous" as people first thought.

And plus, you are still the most punk rock guy I know, so we are all good!!!!

  • Poor Lulu. She only asked. I know it was a badly written request, but hey, you gotta start somewhere.

    Lulu:
*I have no idea how I got into it. I guess it was to do with friends turning me on to it.
*I ride a fixed-gear bicycle cos its really really good fun - it feels... connected (in a way that geared bikes don't), safer, and somehow lovely. (I like Will at Hubjub's '10 reasons to ride fixed' page, check it out. http://www.hubjub.co.uk)
*The lack of transmission make the bikes are simple to fix and maintain.
*I started to ride simply to get places, but that's made me enjoy my journeys. Sometimes I ride for fun now. I used to ride skateboards for transport so it was a natural progression of that.
*injuries: Nothing to write home about.
*Have chatted to a few people on that level of 'you ride fixed, I do, lets be friendly/civil' but generally the trendiness of it makes people a bit funny about that. I'd rather talk to the old geezer on the clapped-out tourer really. I have actually had one courier shout 'amateur!' at me, which I thought was quite sweetly-put really - after all, I have a proper salaried job that allows me to earn a regular amount of money, not getting rained on all the time and getting sh*t from pedestrians and cabbies and white van man. Made me think, Yes! I am an amateur, and proud, sh*thead. But he was travelling rather fast so he didn't get this point as I shouted it at his filthy rear Mavic. It's notable that couriers seem to be using gears more and more these days, probably cos track bike stuff is getting harder to get cheaply, thanks to the trendy thing I imagine.

    • my exciting piece of info: Brakes are actually quite good. My trusty cheapo bike has a back one too, since it may be needed if I want to flip the wheel to use a freewheel on hilly rides out in the country. Have I lost you?

Hope you get a good project together.

  • Got into after mountain bike got nicked, bought a bike with a flip flop hub, just getting fed up of all the gears and weight. Friend of mine said to try it fixed. So we flipped the hub, within a day I went over the bars, and instantly fell in love with the bike, never gone back since. Tried a friends freewheel afterwards and just felt weird. Riding this way is more fun. Posted on the forum a couple times but never any social stuff yet. But it has become an obession for me now rather than a trend. The nikes are just fast and light and very easy to maintain. Losts of YouTubing on MAsh SF and some japanese fixed gear stuff

  • oi skullhead.....if some randomer turns up asking stupid questions they should expect a small amount of banter.......start some where?....maybe some manners.

  • Aidan: Yep, I agree it was a bit rude. i think i got a warm feeling when she mentioned doing her 'project'. It's a long time since I was at school.

  • oh that's just how aidan says hello.

    sock / yes
    snooker ball / yes

    right - who's the daddy

    :^{ ] }

  • ello! ;)

  • how's the moving type project going fella?

  • WTF? I'm scared now. Mostly for the OP'er.

  • matt (baddesigner) oh gosh. just spotted this on FGG.
is this a prime example of the trendy-ness getting out of hand? or is it just a fuck ugly bike?

what's with the seat post? and the forks? and ... and... bah.

If it wasn't for the seatpost and forks, I wouldn't mind owning that, is it really that fugly? What else is up with it?

  • the elements are ok on their own, and i like the blue colour, its just looks a little frankenstien-ish, the forks don't match the frame, the spacers under the stem, just looks a right muddle.

and that chain tension?! :O hahahaha!

    yeah, i am a bitch. :D

  • wayne_f14 how's the moving type project going fella?

ive kind of finished it...ive decided to take the quick and easy approach...il upload it later.

  • that seat post is a joke!

You're right, its a freak. Particularly hate the use of BMX pedal, for some reason. I mean, fixed gear and flat pedals with really bad grip (those things just have about six of these tiny little knobs on)... spacers... post... tension... colours... AND whoever's it is actually took pictures of it and posted them somewhere for us to drool over it. BikesnobNYC is right this gallery thing is flippin anal. Who cares!? Ride your bike. Or sell it. Just don't take pictures of it, unless it's for insurance purposes.
